PCLA Choice

Looking at PC rifle. I have locally a nice Marlin 1894 in 25-20. Seems like a bit of work and expensive to make ammo. Just picked up a Henry Frontier in .22 and it seems very nice. Started thinking a Henry in .357 or .44 mag. Seems like both would be cheaper in the long run to reload for.
All around thinking the .357 might be the best way to go.
Any thoughts or opinions?

357 is nice choice, it can be loaded down enough to shoot more than 100 rounds in a day and still enjoy it.

Before you buy the rifle look into sight options. The factory sights are OK, but as you get more practice you'll want to get better sights. Some of the rifles are easy to add tang or receiver sight - some are going to require a gunsmith. Do some research and you might save yourself a headache down the road.

I shoot a Rossi M92 that required some gunsmith work to add a tang sight - and now I find that the elevations stem is a "low" and I need a "normal" (Thanks Midway - your chart is wrong!). So, I'm out another $50 to get enough elevation.

This web site has a lot of good information - do the research before you buy - it's worth it.

PS: 25-20 is a pretty cool rifle - look into cast boolits to cut you reloading expense (I can't imagine a .25 would be more to reload than a .357.)

We have 2-3 people that shoot 25-20's here at Pala. It's a cool little round that I wouldn't mind having. I shoot a Rossi 92 357, but I still get higher scores with my 39a .22 when I use it in the Pistol Cartridge match - still need to get more trigger time on the Rossi to get more comfortable with it.
My 39a took me to AAA in pistol cartridge, even though I loose Rams to ringers every match, so don't hesitate to use that Henry in the mean time...

The Marlin 25-20 is a nice gun. I own two. if you cast bullets the 70 grain lyman gas check is a good one. With just a few grains to trail boss it will shoot like a 22lr, take down all the targets and right now is cheaper than a 22lr to shoot. Both of mine are very accurate.
