New Winchester 42gr .22LR ammo

Post by snaketail »

I got a notice from Winchester that the Winchester Subsonic Max .22lr 42gr will be shipping soon. The heavier bullet is subsonic @ 1065fps and I think it is the same one the Australians have had for the past two years. Sure hope this is better then the "Silhouette 42gr" we used to get- I think this one is hollow point, not the DynaPoint design.

Anyone tried this stuff on Rams?

A friend "down Under" sent me a 5-pack of the new 42gr subsonic rounds (and probably broke all sorts of laws in the process.) To protect my friend I shot 'em up quickly - disposed of the evidence. In my CZ 452 they made a nice cloverleaf hole at 50 yards. Temp was 110 (yes, 110, its friggen Arizona!) and no wind, and no humidity.

Hey Winchester - this would be a good time to introduce them to the US - we're kinda short on .22 ammo!

7/17 Midway finally got some in, and sold out the first day. My brick should come in this week (although the tracking number shows the delivery date getting further and further away!). Hope it runs as good as promised.

Here is my review of the new 42MAX... not as wonderful as I had expected, but not bad either. s.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=8175
Will use in a lever action match this weekend - will let you know how it does in competition (by 'it' I mean 'me').

I grabbed a brick of that stuff from Midway, also. I was hoping to use it in a cowboy match on Saturday but I ended up being too busy moving and installing a washer and dryer in our new house that day. I'll be testing it in my Marlin 57 and my daughter's Henry youth model, hopefully before next month's match. On first glance, it seems as if the quality control isn't top notch. I saw a few bullets that were slightly loose in the cases in the one box that I opened and inspected.

Used my BL-22 and 42Max ammo in a Cowboy Silhouette match today - I shot an AA score, 25/40 (I'm an A shooter in small bore). In the .22 match the local club uses the standard weight targets and just count hits if one doesn't fall. Everything but the rams fell when hit.

So if it doesn't take down the Rams, what's the point of this ammo? Wait, did you mean standard weight for smallbore lever action or some other "standard" weight?

Craig:

I shot the standard weight Pistol Cartridge targets - not the Small Bore Targets.
