22 mag

Post by dustinflint »

Today, I got to thinking that I really need to get serious about PC load development for my .357. So, naturally, I got on the computer and bought a 22 mag. to try. It's a Marlin 57M. I'm sure the trigger will be terrible but I'll try to do some work on it.

Anyway, what bullets should I buy for it? I know that lots of folks reload ram bullets but I dont want to get into all that just yet. Just want to know what everyone shoots so I'll know what to buy.

Also, which Williams reciever sight is the correct one for the 57M?

I have to wonder if it is something all shooters have/do/are afflicted with....

I was looking on Gunbroker for a set of reloading dies and bid on two separate Remington 541s.... Which I surely do not need....or really even want. They are just so damned pretty.

I know squat about your question. Sorry. :?

Ha! That's funny.

If the silhouette committee would use some sense and change the rules to accommodate my wishes, I'd REALLY be online buying FWB and Anschutz smallbore target rifles and single-shot falling block cowboy guns.

I've been thinking that a non-reloading PC gun would be nice to add to the stable. Today I just happened to think about it while sitting in front of the computer...

Those 541s are nice. Jerry Tureau has one with an Anschutz trigger. It's sweet.

Dustin,

The Marlin 57 and 57M use the Williams FP-88/100-TK sight, assuming you want the one with target knobs.

I have a couple extras of those. I'll send you a PM. As for ammo, I haven't found any 22 Mag ammo that will reliably take down the pistol cartridge rams. There was a CCI 50-grain load using Gold Dot bullets that used to work better than others, but it got discontinued. I am one of those who tweaks my ram loads using the Federal 757 50-grain loads now. For the other three animals, I use either the CCI Maxi-Mag TMJ or the Federal 737 FMJ. I tested about 10 different loads and those two showed as most accurate in my rifle, but that testing was a few years ago. Like everything in this game, yours may vary.

Dustin,

FWIW, I used to use a .22 mag in hunter pistol when I didn't have time to load for the .32 H&R mag. I used the Federal 50 gr rounds and do not recall ever losing a ram, and that was with a 10" barrel. I also had a 57M that I bought on a whim, and used it in a couple of PC matches. I ended up moving it along because I was never able to get the gun mounted in a comfortable shooting position. If I had added a leather cheek piece it probably would have been OK. Good luck with it.
