Anyone using a 7-30 Waters?

I've begun to see that I need a better long range rifle. Before I go looking I thought I'd ask about the 7-30 Waters. Seems like it ought to be a good choice - but those I'm seeing on Gun Broker are expensive! Should I search more, or just do what everyone else does and buy a .30-30.

To be honest I've always be fond of rifles that are slightly different - unique pieces. I even thought about a .375 Win, but the only one ever shot kicked like an angry mule... so I'm still searching for the next long range rifle. Anyone shooting a 7-30? Or, have other suggestions - my .45 Colt is fine for Pistol Cartridge matched, but is kinda lacking in the long range matches.

You've got a couple problems with the 7-30 Waters Lever Gun. One is they're scarce and the cheapest one I saw on GunBroker started at $1,095.00. The other rifle was over $1,200.00. Both were Winchester 94AE's with 20" barrels. I think those were the only lever guns manufactured in 7-30 Waters.

The other problem is the availability of bullets. A quick look at Graf&Sons showed only 2, 7mm bullets acceptable for tubular mags. One is the 175gr Hornady and the other is the 160gr Lapua selling at $89.99 for a box of 50.

Just my thoughts.

I enjoyed shooting with you guys on Saturday. That is quite a facility.
Guess I'll look for a .30-30 - I'd go broke with a 7-30.
