What is Standard Velocity Ammo???
What do you guys (especially Match Directors) call Standard Velocity? What do you do about folks who don't have "conforming" ammo?
Do you have a fps limit? Would something like Federal Automatch (1200 fps) be allowed? It is round tipped lead and not plated?
Give me names of the marginal stuff you allow and fps if you know.
We all know the names us regulars use, like CCI SV, Eleys, Lapuas, Fiocchis, etc.
I don't want this to be a review of what's good/bad, just what is allowed and won't tear up your targets and is within the NRA rules.
Thanks for your help in advance,
Greg

Re: What is Standard Velocity Ammo???
The rule book says no hyper velocity ammo, and it goes on to name them. The 1200 fps stuff is acceptable ammo an all matches I have ever been to. Most target ammo is below the speed of sound to keep the bullets out of the transonic zone where they become unstable.

I know several people who have or do shoot AM22. It's fine and if your rifle likes it even better. The report is a bit lounder but it doesn't tear up animals....

Emmett Dibble, Houston, Texas. Where's my buddy Jason? Keeper of electronic records and banisher of little pieces of paper?

Re: What is Standard Velocity Ammo???
In the matches that I run, I specifically don't allow anything advertised as hyper velocity (stingers, velocitors, aguila super max, etc.) or anything above 1300fps. We haven't had target damage from any of the high velocity stuff (Automatch, Mini-mag, various bulk pack ammo), but if we did I'd stop the competitor from using it. I generally try to let people shoot what they have unless they're breaking an NRA rule or damaging something.

Same as Jason, I don't turn people away, something looks hot may wait and see. We can afford to replace a chicken or two in order not to scare off a new shooter. Get the target setters to check after they shoot.
