Receiver sight for BL22
I see all kinds of discussion about receiver sights: Gotta replace the front sight, they are ugly... I want something that I don't have to "gunsnith" to make it work - like simply mounting it on the scope groves. Looks are 2nd to performance.
What I need to know is - Which Williams or Lyman sight should I buy to shoot .22 Cowboy Silhouette with my Browning BL22? And, I'd rather have the sight with knobs than carry a screwdriver. And, I'm not a fan of the Skinner sight, but could be talked into another brand.
Suggestions?

Williams make one that clamps on the dovetail. They do come with target knobs and work well. That is what my wife had on her BL-22. Go to Williamsgunsite.com and you will find it.

Did you use the High model or the Low model? Remember I'll be shooting 40 to 100 yards.

You will need a .584 Lyman 17a front site and you wont have any trouble. Good Luck Mike

The thing is - I didn't want to replace the front sight, if I don't have to. I was planning on getting the Fp Gr sight, but really wanted to find a sight that didn't require changing the front sight too. Anything from Lyman or other brands that works without additional alterations?

Virtually any aftermarket receiver sight you put on the gun will raise the point of aim enough that you probably will have a hard time getting the sight down for chickens. If you can install the rear sight you shouldn't have a hard time installing the front sight. The only caveat would be if you've got a ramped front sight. If so, you're probably best off finding someone with a sight pusher so you don't accidentally "tap" off the ramp along with the sight. Been there and done that. Bought a sight pusher.

OK, I guess I'll change the front sight too. Thanks for the info.
Phxshooter - you ever shoot at the Rio Salado Club? I like it much better than the Tucson Rifle Club.

Re: Receiver sight for BL22
I get over there once in a while but do most of my shooting at Ben Avery. There I shoot all 3 CLA games, SB Silhouette, HP Silhouette, Vintage Military Sniper Silhouette (against the Black Powder Cartridge shooters), as well as Sporting Clays. I shot a Sporting Clays tournament at Rio today. I've also shot pistol Silhouette at Ben Avery but the schedule conflicts with other Silhouette matches. I probably ought to use the Rio CLA match to shoot pistol Silhouette since they do both at the same time.
Just not enough time to shoot 'em all. I've had to give up most of my shotgun shooting for Silhouette.

I haven't been to Ben Avery yet. I'm new to Arizona and still finding my way around. And, I've shot a lot more Silhouette and CLA than Sporting Clay this year - in Tucson they shoot a lot more Trap that Sporting Clay - too far from the clubhouse I guess.

Re: Receiver sight for BL22
If you can make it there's a match at Ben Avery the 22nd. Open for practice around 7:30 or 8:00 and the match starts at 9:00. $25 and that includes the morning and afternoon matches with lunch, bottled water and soda thrown in. We shoot smallbore and pistol caliber (your choice) in the morning, have lunch then shoot the rifle caliber in the afternoon. NO TARGET RESETTING!!!! The targets are pneumatic so we just flip a switch and up they come.
Come on up and give 'em a try. Oh yeah, it's on the Pistol Silhouette range.

Re: Receiver sight for BL22
Thanks for the invitation.
A good time to try out the Browning and see if my new .45 Colt loads are any good.
I'll try to make it.
Thanks,
Michael
