38-55 brass

Post by Bigfoot »

Ok like the smart ass that I am I picked up a winny 94 in 38-55 to compete in center fire amd like clockwork all the brass dried up. I've got a Williams rear sight and a Lyman front sight. Powder primers and spiffy 250 grain cast bullets but no brass.

Anyone have any idea of where I can lay in a modest supply prior to Raton? Am I dreaming in a post hoarder world?

if you don't get enough 38-55 brass give me a shout. There are a couple of small gun stores near me and they have some new Winchester brass and it's about 30 bucks a bag. PM me and I'll get it for you, send you the receipt, brass and postage amount. I have a 38-55 Cowboy and I love the gun...you'll love yours.

Starline 38/55 unprimed brass in stock at Natchezss.. $45.99 per 100 pack

http://www.natchezss.com/product.cfm?co ... c=exrbSrch

At first the manufacturer wasn't easy to figure out. I had to narrow down the search by manufacturer to get it to show only that manufacturer until that one showed up under Starline. They only have two bags in stock currently according to the "try to add a truckload to my cart" test.

Make sure to check the brass length you need for your rifle.

Check out Starline Brass directly. Great Brass and good price, just bought 500 of the long brass. Make sure you get the correct length for your rifle.

Thanks guys. I just got back from shooting down in Arkansas and only got online to make fun of Dee for shooting all his high power ammo in practice. What a nice guy though. Those LA guys know how to bring the chow and brews.

So the rifle I'm going to feed this to is a new just outta the box Win 94 Oliver L Winchester com model. Since this is a modern vs. vintage model do I need to sweat the brass length?

Is the length an issue as to whether it's meant to fire in a single shot versus lever action?

Bigfoot, the person that could answer your question best about case length passed away, Gary Doerr. The case length does have to do with the vintage vs modern rifles.
Most of the vintage need to be checked for case length.

Gotcha. For giggles I'll cast the chamber to see if it's saami or otherwise.

I hope to see you this weekend at Pe Ell Mary! Bob are shooting the small bore state match over in Tucson? My dad (aka the Carl) and I will be down per usual. Would love to meet the owner of all those neat 7-08's in person.

About the only time I see the guru shooting SB is when he is in his home state. Besides, he will be chasing a 29 year old around on the beach soon and that will probably wear him out!!!
I will be buzzing in for a fast trip through PeEll, classes on Thursday and again on Tuesday are clipping my wings a bit, but I will appear just to beat Byron with his own rifle.

Mixed results on beating me with my rifle. We tied on one, Mary won one, Byron won two. However Mary won the total 127 to 125.

Thank you for the use of your rifle Byron, and you can blame the loss on your spotter!!! Great match and lots of fun.
