Wooster 1712 Build

Post by sgrayner »

Steve just completed a new Anschutz 1712 custom build for me with both right and left Pharr-RT-like lightweight stocks. While he's still perfecting his colored resin stock, I opted for a couple of his painters which I think turned out very well.

The old wing-style action was threaded to a Lilja 53RF 4-groove tight bore barrel by Steve's barrel guy, Steve Kostanich. I chose the square trigger guard RTS-style bottom metal fabricated by Keith Cairns of Alpine Machine. I have Marv Pearson's bottom metal on another rifle which I consider a piece of art. But Marv won't do the square trigger guards and I wanted that extra reach for my support thumb. Function over form this time.

Steve offered to do the stock painting and I think he did a super job.

Keith's bottom metal came out very nice!

The heavier of the rifles came in at 8 pounds 7 ounces with the 6.5-20x40EFR, lens caps, BKL high rings and an empty magazine. Made weight!!

Thanks Steve

Steve,

Those are just beautiful! If only we could get Anschutz to move the bolt to the other side. How is your eye doing?
I hope I get to see one of those in person.

How is your eye doing?
Pat:
My eye surgery went well, but I still don't know if I can shoot silhouette right handed. I'm fine in a well-lit indoor range and I can see pretty well in good sunlight. Picking out the right animal may prove challenging, hence the left AND right stocks. Either way I'm covered.

Not looking forward to maybe closing the Boston base in October. Although I guess the Boston-New York commute isn't any worse than the Houston-DFW one.

Those are very nice rifles!

I like the trigger guard and agree that it is more functional, but, more importantly, when building a rifle it is simply nice to have things the way you want it.

I hope your recovery continues well.
