Powder Question

I am looking at one powder that will work for 30-30 with all bullets, all yard lines the best. Like keeping loading simple.
Sems like H322 and Varget may be the favorites? bullets 125-170.

I use Varget for 170's same powder as my 7mm08 4227 for the 125's same power for cast bullet loads in 32/40 & 38/55

Full power 170's and light 125's for CPT = very different job. May be all purpose powder out there but I don't know about it.

I know guys that use Varget with all those bullets and I know guys that use H-322 with all. But the best I have seen for bullets weighing 125-170 grain is Reloader-7. I was useing that until I was told about IMR-SR4759 and now use that for the first 3 animals. You can use it on Rams but you will have trouble at times with rams falling. Good Luck Mike

Chuck, Varget would be an excellent choice for an all round 30-30 powder. Very accurate and will give you good velosity. Al Foust

Chuck, Here's some loads I got for the guys at CSLC a few years ago. I've been using them and they are great. No need to move the sights between animals.
30-30 loads using Varget
C/P - 30gr Varget sierra 150gr
T - 33gr Varget sierra 150gr
R - 32 gr Varget sierra 170gr

4759 is a darn good powder, it's all I used for years in Single Shots and reduced loads with 30 caliber cast bullets. I load 38/55 cast 6 x 60 round MTM boxes in one run & noticed dropped shots low time to time in matches. Double checked my powder weights out of the measure and found light charges every so often. 4759 is not easy to measure with most modern measures. Only one I found to do it well is a Belding & Mull that I normaly only run with Black Powder.

Switched almost all cast and reduced loads to 4227 which flows and measures real nice. Most of the single shot shooters will say 4759 and 4227 are about the same burn rate. Look at the charts some will say one is faster other charts say the other. If you don't want fast and filling about half the case one or the other is the powder to use. Still use 4759 for the 45/70 & weigh every charge
