Redfield 75's for CLA

Found a nice 75 on EBay for way too much money. Mounting it on my 36A now. Fed up with its sloppy Lyman 66

Going to the NRA web site today, April 2012 update to the rule book, don't see specific verbiage allowing the 75. Anybody have a link to committe decesion allowing 75's in writing. Want to put a copy in my range bag

Nothing in writing boats but I heard that the Silhouette Committee had met and the big change in the rules that will be submitted to the Rule Committee is that the statement disallowing Olympic type rear sights will be deleted!!! So you will not have to worry about Redfield Mod 75 sights and will be able to use just about anything available that you could attach to the rifle.
Another messy proposition, I believe they will let us spend big bucks on good sight then some people will complain and the Silhouette Committee will reverse their decision like they did with the Fiber Optic sights.
I suggest wait for a year or two to see what happens to see if they will be allowing Olympic type sight in Cowboy.

Wasn't the "no Olympic type sights" already interpreted to mean no sights like the Redfield Olympic, International or Palma sights, but 75s would be allowed? There have been several Redfield 75s used at the nationals the last couple of years, haven't there? Are you guessing that the backlash over removing the "no Olympic type sights" line that lets people use whatever they want might end up with a rule that prohibits the Redfield 75 sights also?

Jason, its hard to say what made them change the rule. It was not a bad rule on the other hand many shooters had gone to very expensive tang sights so in a sense they were discriminating against receiver sights. All that has to happen is that some body will win the Nationals next year using something like a Redfield Palma or some other expensive receiver sight used in HP rifle competition and the protests that would be generated would more than likely make the silhouette committee change the rule to its original form. As far as I am concerned the Redfield Mod 75 is not an Olympic type sight is more of a universal sight like the Mod 70 and 80 but has to use a separate base in order to be installed.

Well I am into them now, just bought a 2nd 75. Local match no problem traveling you never know. Think I will just copy Strobles Gunsight book page on the Redfields. Marlins were listed for the model 70 fixed base sight. 75's are identical to 70's except removable. 70's or 75's either one are not marked with model numbers. Olympics and Palmas are named on the sight.

My Pistol caliber Marlin 1894 has a MVA Tang, I switch it back and forth with a Winchester 1885 Low Wall using two bases, much more precise than the 75's and lot more expensive too. Either way I am through with Lyman 66's
