Rings for an EFR

I have a 6.5-20x40mm EFR on order from Chickin George..thanks again for your help George. What ring options do I have putting it on a CZ 452 American. I am tall, i.e. long neck, but do not know if I want high or low mounts. I am looking for options to help decide. What quality rings are available, to put the Leupold on the CZ, without running out of adjustment.

Look up the member metalhead here on this forum and talk with him. They are spendy but the craftsmanship and quality is worth it.

Putting one of Marvin's $200 mounts on a CZ is like putting $500 rims on a $1000 truck. For the CZ, get some BKL 257 mounts in whatever height (standard, high or extra high) gives you the best shooting position for your own particular body buil and shooting preferences with that American's stock. This might take a bit of experimentation, but the BKLs only cost about $20 each or so each so it's not likely to break the bank if you have to try a couple different heights.

Get some Millet's. They're less than $20 and fit the 11mm groove just fine.

Actually my ignorance about your product line is due to what I have seen on firing lines at the only three ranges that I've shot silhouette at. Those are Machias, Puyallup, and Pe Ell. Those are the products that I know of that you offer. If you have others, feel free to detail them. I'm not sure what you have against me or how much money you think I have (three kids, stay at home wife, and a mortgage, btw). I have one 1712 barreled action in a Pharr stock and have just now saved up enough to get it rebarreled. You told me that you weren't taking on any new work, which I took to be the truth because until now I've had no reason to believe that you would tell me anything else. If you will read back through my posts on here and on Greybeard, I have said that you have been nothing but helpful and are about the best I know of when it comes to metalwork. I still stand by my comments about your metalworking skills.

I called you first because you were helpful when I was first deciding what rifle to buy and you said that you didn't want the job of bedding a 1712 barreled action into a Pharr stock because you made more money doing metalwork than stock work. I took that as the truth and thought of you first when it came to a rebarrel job. Giving you first shot at the job was the least I could do after your helpful advice last year. I'm not sure what has happened between then and now, as I haven't even seen or spoken to you in quite a long time. Whatever it was, congratulations on your marriage and best wishes for the future.

The range of rings that you can use with the American model is quite a bit more broad than if you had one of the other CZ 452 models.

The American uses the same 3/8" dovetail that is much more common in the USA than the 11mm dovetail on other CZ's.

My vote is for a set of the Burris Signature Zee's with the changeable inserts. They will not leave ring marks on the scope (a definite consideration with high end glass like the Leupold), and you can set up built-in "slope" if you need to.

As with other stuff in this game, I keep acquiring more expensive tastes. First it was Millet, then Burris Zee's, then Leupold and BKL, and finally a pair of custom rings loaned to me for a new 1712.

Of these, I think the BKL's are the best value. They're impressively solid, well made, easy to torque and moderately priced.

I'm also tall (6'2") and used tall rings on a CZ American, Silhouette and Varmint but have reverted to shorter ones on the 1712 because they improve repeatability - I have a problem with canting the rifle that is amplified by taller rings and the raised comb on the 1712 let me use short rings and still put at least some of the butt pad on my shoulder.
