Thanks for posting this, Dustin. As much as I'd love to come down for this match, I doubt I'll get to. I do have a question, though. How did you guys decide on the 120-shot match for centerfire and the 40-shot matches for smallbore and pistol cartridge? We hold a two-day cowboy lever silhouette tournament at our range every other year and have wondered what the shooters would like better for number of matches and number of shots per match. We're currently doing two 40-shot matches for smallbore, with lunch between, on Saturday and two 40-shot matches for pistol cartridge, again with lunch between, on Sunday. The idea to start shooting the centerfire match has come up and I was wondering how that might be worked in to our tournament. I'd appreciate any experience you might be able to share.

This is CLA only correct? No Hunter Pistol?

Jason,

The 120-shot centerfire match is to set some new national records. The current 120 shot CLA record is relatively low and there are several shooters in the general area who are capable of breaking it. The 40-shot matches are mostly just a function of the number of targets we currently have and the fact that we don't want the Sunday matches to last all day.

This is the first CLA championship ever in Louisiana. Next year and moving forward we will probably shoot a 60-shot PC and a 60-shot SB match on Saturday and one 60-shot CLA match on Sunday. Of course, we'll do whatever the shooters want; there is no match without competitors!

E - This is CLA only, no hunter pistols (although, by all means bring your pistol to show off!)

Assumed with no mention of HP that it was a CLA match only but it never hurts to ask... If it were closer I would. I shoot only HP now at our CLA matches. I do love my Contenders.... ;)

Note that I edited my initial post to reflect the change in the match schedule.

We're also still trying to determine whether we can get away with 60-shot PC and SB matches instead of 40-shot.

John,

Anyone is welcome to camp in a camper or tent. There is electricity but no water.

The cost will be $25 per rifle - I'm still working on the Louisiana Shooters Assn. fee - hoping to keep it really low or be able to absorb it with the entry fee. As soon as I get the final word from the LSA, I'll have the entry form out.

The range is at the end of a little road that runs beside a trailer park. The address of the trailer park is 350 Bayou Road, St. Bernard, LA or 350 Bayou Road, Poydras, LA

There are two hotels on Paris Road in Chalmette:

Best Western Plus
3400 Paris Road
Chalmette, LA 70043
(504) 309-6360

Marina Motel
5356 Paris Road
Chalmette, LA 70443
(887) 747-8713

Shooters who dont stay in one of those two hotels are encouraged to stay in New Orleans (I encourage shooters to stay in New Orleans anyway - It's going to get dark early and there is a lot more to do in the French Quarter than in Chalmette.)

I have been asked about the color of the targets - we shoot white, black and yellow targets, depending on what is easiest to see. the targets will be one of those three colors.

Also, the range will be open at noon on Friday, December 14 for practice, sighting-in, etc.
