I'm flying in to Colorado springs as its 75 miles closer than Denver and the rental cars are reasonable. Flight was $228 from Seattle with frontier and the car quote is $110. That was enough to convince me to go!

I have a couple of ideas.

Fly into Colorado Springs, CO or fly into Albuquerque, NM.

Raton is approximately a 3 hour drive from Albuquerque.

They don't get much cheaper than me but for sho' I wouldn't roomy up with anyone out of common decency. My fiance tells me my snoring could wake the dead 2 counties over. That and I tend to wake up about 2 hours before most folks. Here's to hoping there's a good place for breakfast nearby that's open 5am-ish.

I would fly into Denver, and drive down. Usualy it is much cheeper to get off at Denver and it's only an hour farther than Co Springs.
