Scope Mounting for 1712

I'll be taking delivery of a 1712 FWT later this week. (I feel like a 5-year old the week before Christmas) I'd like some input on scope mounts. I think the best long term option will be some custom made mount(s), but I need to figure out the correct height and possibly slope first.

I have several options in mind for starters. In no particular order, they are as follows:

1. Use a set of Anschutz to Weaver base adapters and a set of Burris Signature Zee rings. I like the Signature Zee's mostly for the interchangeability of the inserts in terms of figuring out the correct slope.

2. Use a set of Eric Brooks 11mm to Weaver adapters and Sig Zee rings as above in option #1.

3. Get a set of BKL's (probably 257's). The only thing I don't like about this option is the lack of slope built into the rings. Has anyone had a problem using BKL's and running out of scope adjustment with a typical Weaver or Leupold scope? Maybe I'm placing too much stock in the "slope", but I am an engineer, and we can be kind of anal about that kind of thing.

In the for what it's worth department - Your scope will have some impact on the type of rings and base you elect to use. I like the base and rings made by Marvin Pearson (Metalhead) because they work better than anything else I've tried, which is just about everything. Depending on how your 1712 was assembled you may need either an 11 MOA or 20 MOA base. I have one 1712 that I can't reach the rams with an 11 MOA base and a Bushnell 8X32 scope - Marvin sent me a 20 MOA base - no problem. Marvin also makes rings of various heights. Burris makes a set of signature rings that will clamp to the 11mm base of your rifle - I think their number is 420555 for black finish or 420556 for a matte finish. If you want them taller there are several companies that make blocks. Hope some of this helps - best of luck with your shooting.

Start here, this will give you a good idea where you wanna go long term. Less than $20 or so....

I have a 4200 bushnell with BKL 257's. If you run a bushnell scope with 1/8 clicks, you will not reach rams. I had to do a bit of shimming to get there. I like the rings but there are better choices if you use a bushnell scope with 1/8 click adjustments.

I ran a Weaver 6x18x40 with 1/4 clicks and was able to reach the rams. I do not remember if I had much play room though on the top side.

You might have a different experience but my wife and I both have 1712 fwt and we both use BKL scope mounts. She has a Weaver T 36 and I use a Leupold/Premier scope and we did not need any shims to properly adjust our scopes.

I feel your pain jetmug...........I have a set of BKL 257 on a 1712 with sightron 1/8 MOA and can't reach the rams....I'm investigating b-square 10037 or the burris signature with .020 offset. Let me now what you come up with. I'll do the same

I used several different scopes, four of six of with 1/8moa adjustments, on my 1712 and never had any trouble reaching rams using the BKL 257H mounts. One specifically was a Bushnell Elite 4200 6-24x with 1/8moa adjustments. It's on my AR15 now, but it worked fine on the 1712 when it was on there.

I have had the same mounts and 6.5-20 Leupold scope on 3 different silhouette rifles- a 64 MSR; 1712, and 54.18. Never had to shim, never ran out of elevation. When I bought the 64MSR from Champion Shooters, they asked me if I needed rings to mount the scope. I bought the "no-name" $25 set that clamps into the 11mm dove tail in the receiver, and they have worked for all 3 rifles. All it says on the plastic baggie is "Anschutz scope rings". Nothing else anywhere to tell where they came from. I think they still list them in their on-line store for $25- They worked for me.

I prefer Beeman 5030H from Airguns of Arizona. I also have 257s. With both, I use a credit card shim in the rear ring. I can get to the rams in 1 1/4 revolution from the chickens with a 8x32 4200. This is the same on 1700s and 54ms. I use wolf or rws ammo.
