Benton Gun Club Regional

Several of our Louisiana crew went up to Arkansas for the Benton High Power and Smallbore Regional this weekend and it was AWESOME! All the guys running the matches, led by Greg Sullivan, did an outstanding job. These people know how to run a match! The matches flowed without a hitch; the target setters worked fast; the range was superb; the food was great; the company was wonderful and there were plenty of GREAT shooters to put on a show.

As far as I'm concerned, this match is on the annual must-do list and I'll be eagerly looking forward to the announcement of the 2013 dates to put on my calendar.

Congratulations to my mentor, Jerry Tureau, on winning the Top Gun award for the best aggregate score over the weekend and to Mark Pharr for finishing his grand slam in High Power Hunter Rifle by taking down 10 turkeys in a row. It only took Mark 23 years to finish off that Grand Slam! Mark also missed the national long run record on turkeys by one shot (I think). That was great shooting!

Thank you again to everyone involved with this match; I look forward to seeing you all again next year!

I will concur with everything Dustin said above. Great match all the way around. The food was fantastic and everyone was very welcoming. I know all of us from Louisiana and several that were unable to attend with us this year all look forward to next years match.

Conditions for the match were lovely with the exception of the slight breeze that was blowing Sunday for the smallbore match. 20-25 mph gusting to 35+ fun fun The conditions for the high power day were pretty constant and not all that windy but it wasn't calm by any means just colder. Both days were gorgeous with regards to sunshine. It was great to meet some new people from Steel Chickens as well.

I forgot how chilly it can be north of I-10 so next time I will pack a little warmer.

Some were rung throughout the weekend. I only rang one during the match I think but had another ringer practicing center high in the back no less. With a 6.5x47. The wind was coming into our face and switching right to left most of the day.

I rang one. This was my second HP match and the first time I've rang a Ram. That's frustrating! It's hard enough to hit a HP ram, to hit one and have it not count SUCKS!!

We greatly enjoyed your company this past weekend and thanks to all for attending what I hope will be the first of many events to follow. This type of event cannot take place without the support and participation of fellow shooters. With the turnout we had this year, and the kind words above, you might want to get your entry in early next year!
As Dee mentioned above, we did have a little wind, but that was just good practice for Raton. One of our club members asked be how I shot, I replied "While swaying!"

My lips are still chapped from all the wind, but I also had an awesome time. Managed to hit a few HP rams. Also rang one, which is very frustrating as I hit it pretty square in the flank which I'm told usually knocks them down. But I met some great people and made some new friends.
