Forgive him Chere, he didn't take the time to read all your posts on why you were looknig for a 10-22. I'm sure our trip to and back from Winny will be eventful if we miss even one of his planned rest stops ;), we don't let him out much by himeself anymoreChere wrote:Thank you so much. I do believe I have ammo and gun to fill the bill for that ppkny.
Looking at a 10/22 as an alternate for silhouette, and as a "fun" rifle for plinking and Friday night target shooting at the sportsmen's club.

Re: Itch for a 10-22
Hi Chere
The tech guy at the nationals kicked my 10/22 hunter gun out of hunter class because it had a green mountain heavy tapper barrel on it. Said it was not enough tapper.
So I chose not to shoot the nationals and bought a 1710. Sold the green mountain barrel and I am trying to find an accurate legal sporter weight barrel for next time.
Ridgway is over a year away so I have time. ............Jack

Bummer about that "heavy taper barrel"; I'd love to get good enough to go to Nationals390jack wrote:Hi Chere

Let me know what you decide. I'm still doing the research.

Chere,
I think the 10/22s are a fun gun to shoot too. I have not used mine in matches yet, but I may put a relatively low power variable on it for beginners to borrow. 10/22s are everywhere and they don't "scare people off," like some of our expensive Annies might.
ALSO - There is a 10/22 for sale in the Marketplace, if you are interested.

Chere,
You are good enought to go to the nationals. You are only shooting against yourself. THe classes should keep you close to those with your same abilities.
Jack, if the barrel had any taper according to the rules (which actually specify from chamber to muzzle) it should pass, because there is no specification as to how much the taper has to be. You should challenge it and let the
jury decide.

Re: Itch for a 10-22
Hi Mary
I did question it. It passed the year before. But not last year. Same tech guy.
When I questioned it. He took it to the older gentleman in the back who was selling the shirts. He said the barrel was not legal also. I doubt either one of them knew how to use calipers to even see if the barrel was tappered.
I was going to purchase a shilen with the varmint tapper for the gun. But I have not done so yet. I fiqure I will wait until CZ makes the 455 varmint barrel available and fit one of them to my 10/22. They are 1/2 the price of the shilen and I know they are legal. .....Jack

What I did for my hunter 10/22, I got the volquartsen stock pictured in the Volquartsen ad, Kidd trigger, Barrel from a 77/22VBZ (24" heavy tapered barrel, it needs spacers to work) balances nice for me. Lucky to find all parts used. Havent shot it competitively yet but it is accurate
