Howdy Y'all

Post by AddictedToSB »

I've already made a few posts so figured I should get around to introducing myself.

I've been lurking for a few months, and finally got around to joining so I could thank the folks that ran the TX State SB Championships. I've been picking up a lot of great info here. Y'all are a very helpful group.

A little about me. I started shooting SB Silhouette in mid-2009, mainly as a way to improve my shooting skills for hunting. My local range (Austin Rifle Club) gives the option to start on "club" animals that are larger than the NRA targets, which helped a lot to get me hooked and build my confidence. I'm not sure the exact scale, but I think they are a little smaller than the hunter pistol targets. When I started hitting about 1/2 of those, I was persuaded to move up to the official targets. With a few modifications to my Ruger 10/22 (bull barrel, thumbhole stock, and 40x scope) I worked my way up from B class to A in Standard rifle. Last year I added a used Anschutz 1451 to my armory as a Hunter rifle, and shot with it a few times. I used both of them at the TX state match earlier this month, and managed to get an AA score with both of them, which moved me to A class in Hunter. I've decided to retire the Ruger and start shooting the Anschutz in both classes, and hope to move up to AA soon.

I've been blessed to have some great shooters at ARC take me under their wing, including Mark Pharr. Their advice and encouragement has been priceless. I also have a very wonderful man giving me all the support he can. I've even been told there's going to be an upgraded Anschutz in my hands sometime this year.

I'm planning to compete at Arkansas regionals, Winnsboro, and Nationals. I look forward to possibly meeting some of y'all in person.

Welcome, Heidi! Just as a request from the guys here, please take it easy on us as you get better at silhouette. We already have several ladies in the sport that dominate regularly, and I'm not sure our frail male egos can take much more. =))

Welcome aboard Heidi,
Hope you continue to enjoy this sport and improve your scores - that's what it's all about! I have just moved up to AA in both SB guns myself - mostly attributed from my graduation from a starter gun - NS522 - to Annie 1712 in a Roberston/Pharr stock!

I'm glad to see more women joining the sport - even though most of them out shoot me - at my age I got no ego left! I want even more Women and Juniors shooting because all the shooting sports don't give an advantage to "bigger/stronger" and you can do it (them) "all" your life! So many other activities diminish as your age increases, but not the shooting sports!

Anyway - I'm going to Winnsboro, so maybe I'll see you there along with everyone else for the "last blast."

If you're ever up in the mountains of western North Carolina on the 2nd Saturday of the month, stop by Asheville Rifle & Pistol Club for our monthly SB matches. A little altitude really effects your attitude!

Good shooting,
ShootingStar

Thanks for the warm welcome.

I started off pretty slowly, mostly due to disbelief that I could EVER hit those little teeny animals. Finally got enough confidence in my ability to start improving a little more rapidly.

I'm also hoping to get more women involved in the sport. Participation at our range lately has been very small (usually only 4-8 people shooting each month), so I'm going to try to get the new women's shooting group that just formed to come to a match as one of their activities.

Heidi it was nice to meet you, If I remember you correctly Mark was trying to sell you and your husband all my rifles. Lol. What a funny guy!! Actually plum full off Texas bull manure. :D I was the goofy guy with the goat beard from TN. My rifle had the purple, blue and silver Robertson's stock with the trigger guard engraved "Turkey Buster". Well the goat beard is gone so I will be a stranger at our next meeting. :D

I'm so glad your loving the sport. You shot very well at the Texas states. Looking forward to seeing you In Arkansas.

Hi Jason,

Yep, that was us, LOL. Mark and Bobby had some ulterior motives going on. They had decided to upgrade me, and were trying to get me looking at what was out there to figure out what I liked, without telling me yet I would be getting a new rifle. Not to say your's isn't a possibility (that stock is beautiful!!), just haven't decided for sure yet what to get me. I'm probably going to be looking at several new and used ones between now and Winnsboro, then making a decision. :-bd

Mark, was trying to sale my brand new rifle for some reason. I think you should offer him some low amount for his small bore rifle. Since he is the High Power national champion and he didn't shoot his small bore to national champion level there must be something wrong with the rifle. That might get him stirred up. =))

I look forward to meeting you in Winnsboro. You will have a great time in Arkansas but remember it is in a dry county! Just ask Innocent Mary!

I forgot to say that the shooters in Arkansas are most hospitable and you will be welcomed with open arms. A great venue to shoot on!

Hey, the hotel was not a in a dry county, just the resturant that we ate at across the street from the hotel was in a dry county. Big guys and cargo pants took care of the little issue.
