2012 Factoryville, Pa. SBS schedule and info

I have received the locked in schedule for 2012 for Factoryville Pa. Smallbore Silhouette matches. Note that on the website schedule, April is listed as the 8th, it is actually the 22nd due to Easter Sunday.

The number of average shooters (12 per match in 2011 with a record number of 21 in July) has grown since 2010, and looks to be getting even bigger in 2012.

Just to bump the thread as the first shoot of the year is March 11 (next weekend) if anyone is interested in the area.

The club was also nice enough to allow me to add a picture section just for the SBS matches and highlights of the events will be added along the way.

Some of us guys from NY are coming down also for the March 11 match. This is a top rate range. Walt has done a lot of work maintaining the course and running the mathces. This year it looks like he plans even more imporvements to the matches to make them even more exciting.

on the site i also have GPS coordinates listed for those that use those toys, and copied and pasted below. the official address that they use P.O. Box 331, Lake Winola Road, Factoryville, PA 18419 whether that is the actual location, i don't know.

There are several other ways to get to F.S.C. however the directions below are the least complicated. If you choose to use GPS to help plot your alternate route, our coordinates are: 41 DEG 32’ 15” N / 75 DEG 49’ 22” W or 41.535119 -75.823866. You can also use mapquest on the internet; http://www.mapquest.com/

Type in “Lithia Valley Rd, Factoryville, PA 18419” or “Factoryville Pa” (use Carpenter rd. to get to the club) then use the “satellite feature” to find the club / range and be able to find and alternate route that suits your needs.

FROM SCRANTON / CLARKS SUMMIT AREA:

If using Routes 6 and 11, you can get off at dalton (Rt 632). Instead of going east, go west (technically 632 ends, just go in opposite direction of the 632 east signs). At keep left (Lithia Valley rd.) and keep following until you reach the familiar turn off on Lithia Valley Road to the club.

You can also continue on route 6, stay to the right at the route 6 / 11 split, go 2 miles to Lithia Valley Road, turn left and go 1 mile (farm on left), make right turn (Lake Winola Rd.) and go .9 mile to Club on left.

From I-81 N or S, exit 197 Waverly, then follow Rt. 632 W. Use direction #1 in directions for Scranton / Clarks Summit area above

- OR –

Route 307 to Lake Winola (through Mill city), before the lake make right on Fairview road, next intersection go straight (turns to Ehrhardt road, next stop sign make a right. The club entrance will be on your right.

You can also choose to pass Lake Winola, make right on Dalton road, left on Lithia valley road, and continue to follow until you see the club on the right.

FROM TUNKHANNOCK AREA:

From Rt 6, At red light on Rt. 6 go east on Rt. 6 for 6.8 miles and make a right on Lithia Valley Road, go 1 mile (farm on the left), make right turn (Lake Winola Road) and go .9 mile to Club on left.

Our friends to the north of the club could pick either of the routes, depending if you take Rt. 92 or Rt. 11.

Last match "The Silly Silhouette" was introduced for each entry fee paid shooter or junior to participate in. A target position is picked randomly out of a container, if that target is knocked down, the shooter that hit it wins $3.00 for a chicken or pig, $5.00 for a turkey or ram.

A bump for our May 13 smallbore silhouette match (MOM will understand)

Last month we had 19 shooters, along with 6 new shooters to either FSC or the sprot in general, and 1 junior shooter.

That "Silly Silhouette" idea sounds slick! How do folks treat it? Do they try extra hard? Is there some good-natured ribbing if someone misses that special animal? Do you think its an extra selling point for coming to the match?

If I get the idea straight: if a Master Class shooter gets chicken #8 and hits it (they sure should) they get $3, right? Classes are not limited to which animal they choose from, correct?
What is the Class distribution of the shooters, say the last 19 for example?

Sounds like a good concept to try at my matches! Thanks for the idea.

actually no one knows (including myself) what the silly silhouette will be.

1. We all shoot first.
2. Then the cease fire and made safe is called after the tenth target.
3. A piece of paper is drawn out of a container.....there are 120 pieces of paper each with a target number on it (we have 3 banks per animal A, B, C, and a 40 round count match = 120). Example CA1 = chicken, A bank, 1st target or TC7 = turkey, C bank, 7th turkey.
4. If the animal happens to be down, the shooter that knocked it down gets the $.
5. If the silly silhouette isn't hit, the prizes roll over to the next match, so the 2nd match of the day has the potential of being $6.00 for a chicken or pig or $10.00 for turkey or ram. If no one hits it in the second match, it further carries over to the next month's match, then it's $9.00 or $15.00, and so on and so on until hit.

the first trial at it i only had the turkey and ram banks as the cash targets. i figured it would get people to voluntarily go to the harder longer targets first, however it was pointed out that the guys on chicken and pig has the deck stacked against them. so i went with $3.00 for the easier / closer targets, $5.00 for the harder / further ones. once it's hit, the silly silhouette is over for that match whether its a $3.00 or $5.00 target.

i figured drawing a random target number means there's no favorites, no special marking of the back of the targets, and no one concentrates more on one particular target. as i presently have no setters, there's no way for "gaming" either or telling where the silly silhouette may be.

i think it's going over well, adds a little drama, and provides any shooter the ability to walk away with something.

to keep the match timely and less complicated its not based on either division or shooter class, just a shooter and a random steel target. i think it will be even more popular as the season progresses, and if we get more shooters, i may bump up the amount to $5 and $7 or possibly more for 2013. doesn't sound like much, but in a rollover situation, it adds up quick. i think even at $3 and $5, it is an added bonus for showing up, heck its better than nothing.

to answer your other question, the distribution of shooters for april were:

hunter rifle: 9 shooters, 3 AAA, 6 B, interestingly no AA or A
standard rifle: 10 shooters, 3 AAA, 1 AA, 3 A, 3 B
seven 5 in a rows, and a tie breaking shootoff in match 1.

^ only if C8 in whatever bank section (A, B, C) is picked out of the container.

Thanks so much for the clarification and details!!! It really cleared it up for me. I had the wrong approach after the first read.

I still think the idea is pretty slick and I may see if I can work it into my matches. I'll have to think about the roll-over, but if I set the money aside at each match, then I should have the money - right?

Keep the ideas coming - you never know what may get more people coming in and that's what we all want, right?

June and July is historically our highest participation numbers (20 + shooters), and with the turnout we've had over the last few months, we're poised for a really good turn out.

Last month we had 14 shooters, considering it was Mother's day, it wasn't that bad.

A quick bump for our next silhouette matches to be held on July 8th.

$7.00 for 2 matches, new shooters to the club and anyone under 16 shoots for free. Also a chance each match to win a $3.00 or $5.00 prize if you hit the silly silhouette. Practice / sight in at 9:00 am, matches start at 10:00 am.


On a side note, the 200, 300, and 385 meter ranges (218, 328, 421 yards) may be reopened for next year at the club and entertaining a "long range day".
