Boats, This is a very valid and cogent observation, one that I did not even consider when I made the original post. I am a Shooter/Collector. Shooting being the priority over collecting. Prior to being interested in Silo shooting, I shot a bunch of skeet, trap and sporting clays. In addition to modern shotguns, I also did a bunch of Vintage shooting, using double and single barrel shotguns ca 1880 to 1930. I acquired quite a few of these and now I am interested in accurate .22 rimfire rifles.

Since my short time here I have acquired a Remington 541-T, a Winchester Model 75, and a couple other's that are not in the same category, but are decent rifles, none-the-less. I have a great love of the esoteric..... and the older guns of bygone days. While Anschutz Rifles are without a doubt the top of the mountain, I really would prefer to get a Rifle like the Remington 541-S, WInchester 52, Remington 40X, Walther, or classic Brno. (or other that may qualify).

For now, I think I will just sit back, wait and pounce upon a likely subject as they become available. Maybe, just Maybe.................... over time....... I will realize my dreams.

The last time I seen a 40X sporter for sale was on Gunbroker, there was a collection of 3, the least expensive of the trio was 3600.00, the best was 4200.00. I would be nervous about leaving one of those in the rack unattended at Raton.

I saw 3 position 40x's on sale on TargetTalk for about $850 ea. If your number is correct, buy the heavy guns and have it rebarreled. Then call up Evelio, have it restocked and you'll save about $2000. No way they're worth that much. I know they come out of the custom shop, but please, buy an Anschutz and 2 CZ's.

I paid 750.00 for my single shot HB 40x barreled action from the custom shop in the late 80's, these guns can still ordered. I talked to a guy in the custom shop about ten years ago about haveing mine coverted to a repeater, he basiclly said they had lost the ability to make repeaters, I doubt I'm the only guy that had that idea, hence the 4,000.00 price tag for a 40x sporter/repeater.

The high prices on 541's have really brought them out of the woodwork, there are 12 on gunbroker this morning, usually there's 2 or 3 on any given day. A couple of nice S models btw.
