722 style 40X trigger

I just ordered one from the internet. Standard stock, and standard light barrel, not HB. Can I, or should I replace the trigger with a jewel? Any other trigger options? Any special stock needed for a 722, will a 700 short action work?

Standard short action 700 stk will work but you may have to open it up for the factory safety... If you plan to change triggers ( a good plan, by the way) you won't need to do any stock work going with a Timney or a Jewell. If you plan to shoot it as a standard rifle, go with the 2oz Jewell and you won't need a safety at all. If, however, you plan to make it a 'Hunter' class, you're going to need a safety and a REAL light stock... 23oz is what mine had to get down to... plus a lightened striker and bolt shroud.... and cut and crown the bbl back to 21". It turns into a serious project. Good luck. Let us know how it's going.

I have a jewel with the safety on a 308 police/varmint I never use. It has a kevlar stock with the aluminum bedding. I forget who made the stock for remington but it is gray with a white spider web. I was just going to rape that as an expedient. Cool to know that things bolt from the 700 to the 722. Thanks.

You can get the Jewel with bottom safety if you decide you want to shoot Hunting Rifle. With all replacement triggers, the safety placement along the 722-type tang should be your only concern (as far as fit goes).

They will bolt in to the 700 stock.

I rebarrelled one of mine and used an ADL stock that had been routed in all the usual places to make Hunting Rifle weight.

Take your gun over to Ted's and have him do a trigger job. The older 722 triggers were excellent triggers and Ted is is awesome on them. You will need to have the right side of your tang milled to accept a 700 style trigger with a factory style safety.

If I follow this correctly you have a 722 rifle with a standard barrel and stock. It has a 40x trigger. Why would you want to replace the trigger?? There were a couple variations of this trigger but most were very good.

Like CWS and Heavybarrel (Butch) said, the 722 trigger can be improved. I am actually not going to use it myself, it is for a shooting friend as a loaner. I shoot Anschutz because of the triggers.
