Have you had any luck finding places to shoot locally? I too am new to the sport and am a bit frustrated with lack of places to practice. I am a member at Kenmore and SSNW but can't shoot steel at Kenmore and the SSNW is an indoor range. I a sending my check in to the club in Machias, but a 3 year wait! I wanted to get to the shoot yesterday but the weather freaked my wife out and we didn't go.

if you are still looking for a scope I have a really nice Weaver with paralax adjustment that is new in box as I decided to get another Leupold for my second scope. I paid almost $300 but will let it go for $200.00. I am in Everett, so we are not too far.

You don't have to be a member to shoot silhouette matches at that club in Machias. That's my club and I'd bet at least half the shooters that shoot our silhouette matches (cowboy, pistol, hunter, standard) aren't members. The price to shoot a match is also the same for a club member and non-member. If you want to go there and practice, there are a few members of the club on this forum who generally try to get out and practice, most more than I do. For practice, it's usually better to practice on paper and any range that you can shoot 50yds is fine if you shoot taper targets scaled for that distance, or 100yds with slightly scaled down ram paper targets. When I do practice at the Machias range, it's very often with printed targets all at one distance so I don't have to deal with needing a cease fire to go reset and repaint. My best training lately has been at ram targets at 100 meters (not much different from shooting scaled-down rams printed for 100yds). My ability to judge wind combined with larger groups at that distance from rifle/ammo combo is humbling.
