HENRY HOO1T SIGHTS FOR SILHOUETTE

CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHAT SIGHTS ARE LEGAL FOR THE HENRY HOO1T FOR SMALL BORE COWBOY SILHOUETTE SHOOTING I WOULD LIKE TO USE AN ADJUSTABLE RECEIVER PEEP LIKE THE WILLIAMS AND A FRONT SIGHT LIKE THE LYMAN 17A BUT I WAS TOLD AT OUR LAST SMALL BORE MATCH THAT THE SIGHTS I HAVE MOUNTED NOW ARE NOT LEGAL AT THIS TIME I HAVE AN ANSCHUTZ REAR AND A PARKER HALE FRONT WITH POST INSERT. I HAVE ASKED ON OTHER FORUMS AND I AM NOT SURE WHAT IS LEGAL. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THE MARBLES TANG SIGHT IS LEGAL AND I HAVE BEEN TOLD THE FRONT SIGHT HAS TO BE A POST OR BEAD BUT I SEE PICTURES OF HENRY RIFLES WITH A WILLIAMS RECEIVER SIGHT AND LYMAN 17A FRONT SIGHT. I WENT TO SOME TROUBLE TO MOUNT THE SYSTEM THAT I HAVE ONLY TO FIND OUT IT IS NOT LEGAL. PLEASE HELP ME OUT SO I GET IT RIGHT THIS TIME. I HAVE FOUND THAT THIS IS THE SIGHT TO GET THE REAL SCOOP. BELOW ARE PICTURES OF THE PRESENT CONFIGURATION I HAVE.

What you have in the pictures is not legal for Cowboy Silhouette.

What you'll need for the H001T or H001TM is a Williams FP-GR rear sight (FP-GR-TK if you want target knobs) and a Lyman 17AUG front sight.

What's the diameter of the front sight. If it's less than .750 it's okay.

I've tried the same setup he has on that Frontier on mine once already to shoot a 1/5th scale smallbore match. That front sight that's in the picture is gonna be WAY too tall for use with the Williams FP-GR or FP-GR-TK (it mounts on a scope dovetail... doesn't mount like a 39A or 1894). Unless he comes up with a way to extend the Williams a good 1/8th to 1/4" higher, he'll run out of sight adjustment on the Williams before he ever gets the rear sight adjusted high enough to even hit the chickens in the foot.

Williams, Redfield, etc on the receiver versus Marbles (or other tang) is usually a matter of personal taste. I prefer the Williams receiver mounted sight over a Marbles tang, primarily because it's what I first used and am currently using for silhouettes. Some folks prefer a tang rear sight for a variety of reasons. I do like the looks of, and the idea of the additional sight radius provided by a tang, however I've tried a Marbles on a couple guns and wound up going back with the Williams FP on everything I'm actually using, so far. I do have one rifle I'll be tinkering with this year that has a tang sight. Hopefully, I'll warm up to using it.

I agree, It's way to high. The diameter is probably okay but it looks like a 17a would be a better fit.
I'm currently changing over my 357 and 30-30 from the Lyman 20MJT (now illegal) to 17a's and have had to make some adjustments in the height of my rear Williams peeps.

That is just about what I was thinking also but I have never tried the tang sight myself. I do hav a redfield front sight already that is like the lyman 17aug but I am not sure it is the right height either I think I will order the williams rear and the lyman front on monday along with a card of inserts from Brownells. I have the marbles on back order also. thanks again for the info.

Just to let any one else know the lyman 17aug front sight ended up being too high for the henry h001t went back to the original henry sight and have a lyman 17 .404 height on order

Something's changed then... I've 2 H001Ts, one H001TM, and know 3 others that are using the 17aug on their H001T (with the Williams FP-GR). Only issue anyone ever had was a couple had to remove the factory buckhorn for a clear sight path on chickens/pigs when using high velocity ammo. All 3 of mine still have the buckhorn in place though.

Did you use a FP-GR on the rear or maybe a skinner or another rear?

I used a williams fp gr tk brownells part number 962-201-606 and a lyman 17aug front also tried it with a marbles 009848 tang and in all cases front sight was too high
