Fantastic Regional Match, March 17
George, et al, aren't we having our Big Regional Match at Benton Gun Club on SATURDAY, March 17? You know, the one where we try to catch Spring Break so the young scholars can travel to one of the country's PREMIER SILHOUETTE RANGES to shoot two, sixty shot matches, get a great meal, swap some high-grade BS and meet you, me and other legends of the sport? Am I right?
If so, shouldn't we be publicizing that puppy?

That is a good question, I will be on my way home from Branson, MO on the 16th. May be able to convince the wife to stop in Benton for a day to shoot. Please let me know so I can start sucking up now.ajj wrote:George, et al, aren't we having our Big Regional Match at Benton Gun Club on SATURDAY, March 17? For the Huddlestons, the Spring Break Regional at Benton Gun Club is a must make Match. Excellent facilities, reasonable entry fee, strict fair adherence to the NRA rules, well organized, well run by dedicated Benton Gun Club Members, an excellent meal on Saturday Night, challenging conditions this time of year, a scenic location in a reclaimed Alcoa Aluminum Mine and all the Locals make you feel welcome. Friday to travel to the Match and practice. Sunday to make a leisurely drive home. What more can a Smallbore Competitor ask for? Our check and entry forms were mailed a week ago. We have our Hotel room reserved. We suggest you send in your entry form and get your Hotel reservations now before all the slots are filled. This Match is one of the premier one day events of the Smallbore Silhouette Season.

There are still slots available. I'll be glad to PM motel information or any other info you (or anyone else) might need.
This is a perfect match for a first match. It's total immersion, 120 shots for record in one day, then a nice meal. There's really no pressure in any of these matches unless you decide to put some on yourself. I know that feeling.
I think the link provided by GTS will have maps to the range and some other info. If you have last year's book, bring it along. If this wil be your very first match, we'll sell you the NRA book for $12 and you'll be good to go.

The link ajj referenced does have a map to the range which includes coordinates if you want to plug it into your GPS unit. The cover letter provides details of the days events. The range will open for practice at 12:00 noon on Friday, March 16 and at 7:00 AM Saturday March 17. The match will start at 8:30.
One thing not mentioned in the information is the team shoot that will take place Friday afternoon around 5:00 PM or so. The team shoot will be a "Tres Banditos" event for a 3 person team. If you've never seen or shot this, it's a hoot! There are several variations, but the one we will use has 2 pigs, 2 turkeys, 1 ram and 1 chicken, all at the 100m rail. The tricky part is that the chicken is sitting right in front of the ram, and the ram has to go down first. A little to the left or right, and the swing of the ram takes out the chicken, that's a DQ. A little too low and you hit the chicken, which probably takes out both the chicken and the ram, that's a DQ also. No limit on shots fired, fastest time to legally clean their targets wins. It is big time fun, come on out and join us March 16-17, you'll be glad you did.

Well I convinced the wife we should stop in Benton for the match. Sent my entry in to Frank Monday and have the hotel set up in Bryant. I even got John Neihouse to agree to spot for me. Looking forward to shooting at the Benton Range, great bunch of guy and a very nice range. How many are signed up so far, anyone know?ajj wrote:If someone is not there to get the gate open well before noon Friday, I'll be most surprised. I have high hopes it'll be me. If that might affect anyone's travel plans, PM me for confirmation.
See you at the range Friday, Paul

I live just a few minutes from the range and am one of the BGC range safety officers. I took off work Friday to do early practice. If I am not already at the range and someone needs in early, call me at 501-602-0086 and I can open the gate.
