a question about award pins

I did a search,but couldn't find my answer. Is there any rhyme or reason to the color of the award pins?
I've seen different color pins for 1st place, 2nd place,etc., do the colors indicate the class or the event ( small bore,high power,etc.).................................. or is it the whim of the match director or whoever orders the pins?

Inquiring minds want to know !

I ASSume you are talking about 5 and 10 in a row pins. If so they are a different color for each class of silhouette. So Standard rifle has one color and hunter another. Then airguns have their own colors and so on.

Dark brown, smallbore rifle, tan hunter smallbore. Orange high power, peach hunter highpower, don'r recall the colors of the pistol and air rifle but I know pink and green are in their mixture. I believe the NRA has a list somewhere on the website about the colors.

This is what I found on a quick search of the NRA rules.

The NRA will keep records on 10 in-a-rows as they are reported and when a shooter has fired a 10 in-a-row on
each animal in any discipline, the shooter will be awarded a serially-numbered Grand Slam pin and a special
recognition certificate. To receive credit for 10 straight, the 10 shots must be continuous (example: the first, middle
or last 10 shots in a 20 shot match). These pins are enameled in the same colors as the 5, 10 and 15 in-a-row pins
currently in use (orange for High Power Rifle, peach for High Power Hunting Rifle, brown for Smallbore Rifle, tan
for Smallbore Hunting Rifle, blue-green for Hunter’s Pistol, lime green for Hunter’s Pistol Open Sights, white for
Smallbore Hunter’s Pistol, pink for Smallbore Hunter’s Pistol Open Sights, yellow for Long Range Pistol Standing,
dark green for Long Range Pistol Unlimited Freestyle 1/2-size, dark blue for Air Rifle, light blue for Air Pistol, red
for Smallbore Pistol Standing, grey for Black Powder Cartridge Rifle and maroon for all Cowboy Rifles). The 10 ina-
rows on each of the four animals do not have to be fired in the same match. The NRA will accept reports of 10
in-a-rows fired as far back as January 1981, for everything except Long Range Pistol Freestyle events (Freestyle
must be fired on half-size targets so we will accept them going back to January 1982) PROVIDED THESE
RETROACTIVE REPORTS ARE ACCOMPANIED BY A RESULTS BULLETIN FROM THE MATCH INVOLVED.

Al, this paticular cut does not mention air pistol, which I know the NRA recognized at one time.

Most of the generic pins given by most clubs are black with gold numbers.
