CZforlife wrote:My grammar is fine. I can actually write quite a fine essay, but when writing on here I'm not looking to be punctually correct, I'm looking to convey a message. Also, as far as talking to people, that is probably one of my best traits, but isn't this a silhouette forum?
I'm an engineer, and Mary's right about communication being very important, especially writing well so that it does not detract from your message. You want people to think about what you're saying, not mistakes in saying it. Those mistakes can plant a seed of doubt about credibility. Included in writing well is proper capitalization, spelling, grammar and word choice. For instance, punctually is the adverb form of the adjective punctual meaning "on time" whereas I think you meant using correct punctuation. :)

Now there's something you don't see everyday...an engineer lecturing on spelling and sentence structure. call you say "pedantic"?

I can, but I can also say that I've seen some brilliant engineers whose ideas never saw the light of day because they didn't communicate them well. With our budding engineer here, I'm hoping to make sure he's aware that just because he's an engineer doesn't mean that he doesn't need to know how to write well in everyday communication. It was a hard lesson learned for me coming from very rural Alabama to systems engineering and architecture at Microsoft, and I think I missed some opportunities in my career along the way.

Query: If the 'brilliant engineer' couldn't communicate how does one know he's brilliant? Or if a fat girl falls in the forest...who would care?

1) Because the ideas that he has are truly better ways to do something, but unless another engineer with better communication skills takes notice and helps communicate the ideas to those who approve projects and budgets the ideas never get considered.
2) Unrelated. Not a thoughtful question so not worthy of a thoughtful response.
