Making Chickens

Good morning all.
I've just joined the group, looks like a good bunch here. I've been looking through posts and getting some good info. The one thing I have not found is dimensions for chickens. Being a cheap person I thought I would see about making some where I work. There must be dimensions for body and stand size, weight, base, etc. Is this listed somewhere?

I would look into buy a set of targets or swingers from one of the shooters who sell them. I think you'll spend less than making them.

i have a set of 1 each cast targets i was going to weld rod to and make swingers, i have a really home made set and dont really need them. i could part.

You don't say what rifle catagory you are shooting. SB-pistiol cart-HP? the targets dim. can be down loaded from the NRA site but you have to take some of them to a printer to blow them up to full size for HP and pistol cart.

The NRA SB rifle targets are actual size and they are marked off in one minute and fraction markings. They are 1/5 size of the HP targets. Anyone that can measure can lay out a grid and make them any size you want. If you are making SB rifle chickens, be sure to use 1/2 inch plate. You can make the SB rifle targets out of mild steel The HP rifle targets need to be made out of T-1 or something like it.

Don't even think of welding the cast targets unless you are real good at welding cast iron. You have to preheat and use nickle rod. It isn't worth it.

Best thing to do is buy them ready made or use these CAD files to cut with cnc equipment.

If you have a welding machine and know how to use it it would seem to be cheeper than buying them ready made. Have a shop cut them then weld them up yourself.

Thanks all. Those sights have the info I was looking for. There is a fab shop where I work and the plasma cutter they have will cut up to 1/4". May not look as good as an CNC but it will make a good target.
These will be used for informal shooting both rifle and pistol.

A .22 will definitely bend 1/4" steel over time; they start looking like tacos or bowels. Adds a little extra interest to the game.

If you search silhouettes on Ebay there is a couple of guys selling all sorts of pre-cut animals for you to weld up yourself. That might be the quickest way to go and probably not cost you much more than you would pay for the materials.

Shooting at a bowel? I thought shooting politicians was against the law? Who knew!
