I would love to see some custom CZs as well. They seem to only exist in their factory skin. I think a CZ in a Pharr or Wooster stock could be a formidable opponent.

Theres no doubt that if you put a good shooter behind a CZ they can defiantly cause some trouble.

Re: CZ mild or wild
Putting a CZ into a Pharr stock is like the teenagers that take a Honda Civic and spend $10k+ on it trying to make it fast. At the end, they have a fast Civic with little resale value that gets blown off the road by performance cars that cost what the Civic plus its upgrades cost. A really good driver in that Civic might be able to beat a novice driver in the better car, but that doesn't make the Civic any better and the good driver in the better car would have been faster than he was in the upgraded Civic. The CZ rifles are wonderful for their price range. However, with the cost of a Pharr stock plus inletting and pillar bedding, you are well past the cost of an Anschutz 64 actioned rifle like the Weatherby Mark XXII that's a better gun and will retain its value if you want to sell it later. Like the Honda Civic, the CZ is designed with high reliability at a reasonable cost. It's micro-Mauser design (i.e. slower lock time) and slightly looser tolerances in the action combined with a good barrel for the price really make it stand out in the $400 price range. Those things also make it unsuitable for spending a bunch of money on a custom stock or barrel, though. They are great to get started in the game and then keep as a backup or loaner gun when you upgrade.
That said, many of us have rebuilt/reshaped the CZ factory stocks ourselves to make them a bit better to shoot, and think that's what this thread was meant to be about. I looked last week and couldn't find my old pictures that I posted on here of my "Frankenstock" that I made out of my CZ 452 Varmint stock. If anyone else has them saved, please email me or post them up here. I can take more if I get around to it, but they'll show the new green textured paint instead of the blue metallic with clearcoat that it originally had. I'd like to see the pictures of others' work on CZs, too. I also just modified another factory CZ Varmint stock into a kid prone rifle, but doubt there's much interest in that work here.

Re: CZ mild or wild
i am totally interested in the prone stock, as a long in the tooth posisition shooter!
i actually would like to see some Pharr/ Wooster stcoked CZ's and am considering doing one myself over the winter. points about the Civic are valid, BUT only if you care about resale. i dont. as far as lock time goes if that was the be all end all every one would be shooting Pharr stocked Finnfire.
not saying a 54 is not in my future, but the CZ is plenty accurate off the bags, why not? A Chevelle is not a Porche, but it still is fun to drive.
points about strong actions etc. really how stiff does a 22 have to be? i have heard people dismiss the 64 annie for the same reason, i dont feel that there is a gain in performance based on stoutness of action. if a strong action was the bee's knees then every one would be shooting a Miller arms falling block. that will handle a 458 weatherby mag, plenty stout.
i do think the mark XXII is a nice gun, pretty stock, but the angle of grip and lack off drop at heel would nessitate the Pharr upgrade, so now you have a 700$ base gun that still needs a 700 upgrade. my CZ that i use now, is essensially free, trigger is 2.minimum, and crisp, i have no desire for a 2 stage so for 700 bucks could have a fine off hand rig. if the action was to wear out i could get another slightly used cz for a song( any Europeon action would do) and shove it and my trigger mod into the stock and be good to go, i could do this 4 times for the cost of a single 54 build.
not saying a CZ will ever be an anschutz, just more than adaquate for our game. lock time is really a non issue...like topend in a farrari, no one will ever be qualified to see the real benifits.
CZ'a do plenty well in 50/50 bench rest, nothing wrong with the action.
so i would love to see home mods, that being the mild side, and any pharrs, that would be wild!

Re: CZ mild or wild
As someone that has been competing with a Weatherby xxii for a little over a year now let me just say that the stock is not as well shaped as everyone makes it out to be. Yeah, it has a higher cheek rest but that is about all it has going for it. The grip of it completely sucks and the length of pull is about right... for a 10 year old. I've been trying different tricks to get it to work but nothing short of chopping into the stock an reshaping it would fix it. I'm not willing to cut into a stock that is that pretty so... I dropped the action into a wood Pharr stock and so far I am extremely happy. The grip on the Weatherby is terrible. It is great for off-hand hunting (occasional shots) but off-hand competition is a whole other story. I couldn't keep my hand from constantly sliding down the horizontal grip. It would require surgery to fix it and give it some vertical grip to work with.
I don't think that Pharr stocks should be reserved for Anschutz 54 actions. The price of a stock certainly shouldn't dictate what actions go in them. A Pharr/Wooster stocked CZ would be far less expensive than a 1712 and I would bet that it could get most any solid shooter all the way to Master class. Most inlets are pretty easy to cut if you've done a little wood work.
I've never owned a CZ, but I still say that I would love to see one in a Pharr or Wooster and in the hands of a solid competitor.
