1710D making weight
Do you think or your experience tell you a 1710 w/o sights and sling hardware make weight with Leupold 6.5x-20-40 EFR using Leupold super high rings and 2 piece bases? Thanks for the input doceaux.

Mine had 4 ounces to spare with a 6x20 efr. So I would say don't worry.

If it is the 1710 with the heavy barrel, and the original stock, NO it will not make the weight limit, the normal 1710 with the sporter barrel profile like the 1712, YES it will be legal, as long as you don't use heavy rings, and scope like a premier boosted Leoupold.

Evelio wanted to say you were right on the weight. Got a weight of 8.2lbs. with the sling rings still on. See you in March at TX State match with the guys from Beaumont.

Re: 1710D making weight
Do I remember seing a post that the 1710 D HB barrel has enough of a taper for it to be legal in hunter if the stock was changed for it to make weight?

The 1710 heavy barrel actually does have a slight taper on it, enought to make it legal for hunter class, of course you will have to replace the factory stock, and be very carefull in the scope and mounts choice to make weight.

thanks, Evelio. I figured weight might be an issue assuming the barrel was legal. Tom

Re: 1710D making weight
Me and another guy ordered 1710ds with tapered barrels several years ago, and both came with beautiful wood that seemed denser than blonde Seattle Seahawk cheerleaders! Neither of us could make weight, until we took off the butt plate and hollowed out the stocks with a carbide bit..... mounted with a Leupold BR24 and some no name aluminum rings, I've got almost an ounce to spare.......
