A new spotting scope, plus Mallinois!

One of my prone buddies who is an eye doctor and and amatuer astronomist reccomended this pair of binocs, even though he thinks Sil. shooting is silly. It is the Celestron 20x80 Skymaster. It is close to Zander's twin Kowa 821's for a fraction of the price. My only worry was short focus but this will go down to 40m, just perfect. After some internet shopping, I got the whole setup (incl. tripod) for less than $150 delivered from Optics planet. Modeling with the scope today will be our very own Mallinois, who shot lights out today.

Twenty power seems a bit on the low side but having both eyes watching would probably make up for that. I really like the setup for the price. I need something better than I have now, but there won't be a Kowa in the budget for a long time thanks to me being almost out of decent smallbore ammo and my daughter getting started into competitive shooting. Have you tried it for highpower yet? I might pick one of these up in time for the Ironman at Missoula.

We don't (can't) shoot high power at our range so I'm not sure but it is perfect for smallbore. The 80mm objective makes a big difference, very crisp and clean along with the comfort of using both eyes. We were seeing the last few feet of bullet flight on all the animals. The drawback would be the weight(7lbs), so I won't be wearing them to the track...

Now McAlice, don't you trash my bud...we trained together under a fine mentor (former PBY gunner in S Pacific during WWWII) and Ahmed was always a fine handsome gentleman. Granted his dog is a little wimpy around my bitch, but then she had an easy 3 inches in height not to mention weight. Malinios wanted to keep his dog in one piece without vet bills!
Also, that is a real 'in use' photo, rather than some "model" like they bring in to SHOT.

The Celestron binocs look like a pretty good "budget" option. Does anyone have feedback on the variable power Celestron binocs (20 - 125 x 80mm perhaps)?

I looked around for feedback on the adjustable power ones yesterday. They didn't fare well and weren't clear past 30 power or so from what I read.

A clear piece of glass is much better than high power. My Kowa is 27 power and the new ones are 25. The 27 is more than enough power. I shoot with my right eye and spot with my left to give my eyes a little rest. Seems to work for me.

An alternative is the Pentax PCF WP II Binoculars 20 x 60. Extremely bright picture. I have the previous version and used it for six years. It is so cool to stand next to the shooter and see the bullets going down range. The power is plenty strong. Weight is slightly under 3 pounds. Price is around $230. Mine was made in Japan - not communist China.

I have to cover some match duty for the Sunshine Games next weekend so I have to miss NC states, maybe I can catch it next year. I still lurk about here and am shooting locally at Asheville and Rutherfordton. Couldn't get off for Georgia due to prior commitment. But about TN, have you already forgotten that cake that came with it's own zip code we shared with pink at City Cafe? Finally wound up passing it around two tables to get it downed.

Sorry you can't come to NC...I'll miss the smell of bare Florida feet. Won't be at ducky's show this year but am working on being there in '12. Will be at the Chattanooga party to drink copiously with hearty enjoyment since my shooting sucks and my scores suck harder. Anyway, will see you in August at Gator's place. Life's short and uncertain let's eat dessert first this time.

the Gator is moving Tn to October...something about wanting cooler weather!!! Can't imagine what is wrong with him.
