$100.00 Merrell Continuum hiking boots, ankle high, nice wide bottom sole, at Gander Moutain last year, was my best investment. I can wear them all day if I have to and do several times a year at the range when helping out at different events. Super comfortable, yet firm inside sole cushioning, and waterproof.
No break-in period required.

One thing you want to watch with "competiton clothing" is getting called on a rule violation. Call on equipment is not for NRA headquarters. Sanction Match has a jury of competitors. Question on equipment can be raised by competiors or the match director. Any dispute goes to them and Jury rules. Have seen protest by competitors on multiple sweatshirts warm days. Was protested once on my trigger pull. Visiting out of town did well in my class and the local boys called my trigger to see if they could kock me out. I keep my Hunter gun 1/4 pound over just in case.

Plenty of good shooting shoe options with regular boots. Skirt the rule not only runs a risk of problems, you are thinking about possable problems while shooting.
