Anschutz 1712 Trigger

Just curious...does anyone have a 1712 and shoot it in "Standard" class because it has a lighter than 2lb trigger? I love my 1712 (completely stock), but would prefer a lighter trigger pull. I have never shot a 54:18, but it sounds like they have the type of trigger pull that I would like.

There are a lot of folks (myself included) who shoot a 1712 in both standard and hunting rifle classes. There may be some who adjust their triggers (or change springs) to below 2 lbs when shooting it as a Std rifle, but I don't personally know of any.

I suppose at a 2-day match like the So. Nats, where you shoot standard rifle 1 day and hunting rifle on another day, it wouldn't be too much work to change trigger springs and settings to get the pull under 2# for the standard class.

Mostly, I think folks just shoot the 1712's with over 2# trigger pulls in the standard class.

I've had my 1712D FWT since they first appeared in the Anschutz catalogue some years ago.

I regularly just shoot the one gun in both classes, and change springs accordingly, from 2lb+ down to 8ozs.

It is a simple job to change them.

As I have a wood stock as well, I have also changed stocks at times, when the weight limits were lower.

I just use the wood de luxe roll over comb stock now since the 8.5lb weight change in the Light rifle.

The 1712 is probably one of the most popular rifles used in the big matches. If you have a two stage trigger, the second stage could be set at about 6 to 8 ounces, and still be able to make the 2 LBS. limit for the Hunter class. If you were to change springs between the Standard and Hunter class, the gun would have to be re-certified for either class prior to shooting, that is if you want to stay legal during the match.
This bring a very questionable subject ???????? what is done to a rifle after it is certified for a certain class ???? most of them are certified sometimes a day or two prior to the match day ??????? It is actually all about the integrity of the shooter.

My 1712 is set to be a scoosh over 1.5 lbs on the 1st stage and right at 8 ozs for the second. While I would love a 54.18 with a 4-6 ounce trigger I just can't justify building one up. I really think having one trigger is a plus. While I really like the triggers on my air rifles they can be a bit tricky to move from one rifle to another for me. I would probably shoot as good or better scores with my 1712 as I would with a 54.18 seems the case with my airguns anyway. Most people would likely be better off spending the money on ammo and practicing with one trigger after 25,000 rounds of good practice you should hit something lol. Also would just be another rifle you would want to take with you on the road as well ugh.

All that being said if anyone has a 54.18 in a Pharr RT/S for sale...... hmmmmmmmmmm
