Rear sight

OK, looks like I just snagged a nice Canadian Commerative modle 94 with a 26" barrel. Now what and where do I find a good rear peep sight?

PS loads and bullet weights for the various yard lines would be a great help. What powder is good for the old 30-30?

You can get a Williams, Lyman or try to find a Redfield which in my opinion are superior to the other two. I like the Redfield mod 75 but you need to find somebody that makes bases for it. I have a friend that does and the Redfield mod 75 you can find in Ebay most of the time (price depends on condition). There are some other Redfield sights like the 70 or 80 that also fits some Winchester 94 and Marlin 336 and you do not need a base for it. The Marbles tang sight are also popular but not all Winchester 94's are drilled and taped from the factory. Hope this helps you

I bought the new marbles tang sight for my puma rifle, the new sight has positive click adjustments, and different post heigths for your application. it also has windage adjustment, which makes sighting in alot easier.

I like Tang Sights use them exclusively on single shots, but found the new made first model Marbles not very suitable for CLA this the one that turns without clicking and is locked down with a ring. Not easy to adjust bank to bank and a lot of slop in the stem. Marlin 1895 I bought used had one, sold it off right away. Ones on the market now may be better. Thought about high dollar Tangs like the MVA's used on single shots but cost to much to outfit the CLA guns.

In the end have set up three rifles 1894 1895 & M36 with Lyman 66's and left the original Lyman 1A on my 39A My spotter and shooting buddy has set his 3 guns up with Williams. They are both repeatable and reliable. I always put a dial indicator on sights to see what is actually happening when you turn the knob. Lymans all passed the test. One thing I did find on the 66's with the dial indicator, that stop screw intended to stop the sight at bottom zero, will bend the sight arm rather than stop it. If it works down on recoil it's going to cause off shots. Removed all the stop screws on mine. I can read zero off the scale no need for a fixed stop.

One rifle not too concerned about the cash and want a Tang I recomend MVA Montana Vintage Arms.

I have that very same rifle. I bought it cheap and didn't think much of it till I shot it. Boy does it shoot well! I put a Lyman #2 tang sight on it ( my first tang sight ever) and it really helps me. I put a Lyman #2 tang on my Marlin cowboy and it REALLY helps me shoot better. I like the tang sights so much, I'm putting one on my Pistol cartridge rifle.

My Winchester likes the Hornady 150 grn RN ( http://www.midwayusa.com/viewproduct/?product number=382697) pushed by a near Maximum load of 3031 ( http://www.midwayusa.com/viewproduct/?product number=123296) .My Winchester didn't like any of my cast bullet loads, but is as good as I am with the tang sights and commonly shoots around 1 1/2 inches at 100 yards.

If you get a Lyman #2 ( http://www.midwayusa.com/viewproduct/?p ... ber=546951 ) you'll probably need a gunsmith to drill and tap one screw hole to attach the sight. Make sure that it is level while installing. I ran mine all the way up and had to shim one side to get it even after my bud drilled and tapped the screw hole.

Midway USA sells the Lyman #2 and you can read reviews from other sights folks have bought from Midway. I have Williams receiver sights on 5 of my other rifles, but I like the Tang sight best.

I thought the gold lettering was a little bright on my 94 , so I took a black sight pen ( http://www.midwayusa.com/viewproduct/?p ... ber=379148 ) to mine to make the letters dark.
