Hello,
First off let me introduce myself. My name is Brent Saunders I live in Seattle WA and I've been lurking on your informative site for quite some time now... So...Its nice to meet you all. I mostly shoot only airrifle BR/FT at tacoma & Oly. I dont even own a rimfire. The only time I shot silhouette was with a browed 1712 a few years ago at Olympia and I went to the Bernhardt Cup just to check it out and it was sweet. So I made the mistake of selling a guitar to buy a 1712 but in my hazed frenzy for cash my timing was horrible. I sold it in the middle of my basement remodel! The money was then absorbed into the drywall budget no thanks to my wife's cold and ruthless stare. So I figured airrifles are good enough besides I have a lot of them and their fun.
Well families grow. I had my first son 2.5 years ago and its not to hard to find a sitter for one child with family around. Now son No.2 is on his way any-day now and not wanting to take advantage of my sitters (mom&sister) feeling completely blessed that they do as much as they do. And to make it worse my wife will have to work on Saturdays which is when my local clubs do airrifle competitions. Soooo... I say to my wife... Well im going to have to get a .22. I really like to do competition shooting as my form of recreation. And in the pacific northwest you shoot silhouette on sundays. Hell yah..! No sitter needed..... Done!
Which brings me to the rifle.. Im thinking CZ. With the hectic life choice of children I doubt I will really have enough time to get to the range and really practice enough to out shoot a CZ. And when it come right down to it I just want to have a good time and meet some more shooters. If silhouette shooter are half as nice as my airrifle buddies are, I'll be super pumped. But which CZ? The 452 or the new 455 I dont know. The reviews I've read about the 455 seem good. That rifle with my 6.5x20 EFR and I think Im set.

Brent, I have a CZ452 Silhouette with the synthetic stock that I use as a backup and to shoot NYS Sporterifle indoors in the winter. It's a great gun out of the box but you'll need to do a little trigger work on it. There's kits you can buy but if you really want a nice no creep trigger I would go with installing aTimney.It's a little more work but worth it.
Before you buy a CZ I would try the feel of both the American and the Silhouette for shoulder comfortability. They are different design shapes in the butt, comb and drop.For me the Silhouette just fit me better plus I have a thing for synthetic stocks being more durable and able to take more abuse without showing wear.

Brent, Welcome to the addiction...you will have no problems with a CZ, and you are in a great area for all the help you can want, with Dennis, Steve, Jason, Larry, Pete, Shakes, Keith...can't name them all, it would go on forever but I agree with ppkny, try the different stocks and see which fits you best, and go from there as I am sure you will end up with mods to it eventually, even if it is only for setting it up for one of your children as they grow.

Welcome to SC and the sport of silhouette Brent. I started out with a CZ452 American that I bought off another shooter that was upgrading to the Anschutz. I was the third owner of that rifle and have since passed it on to another new shooter for him to get his ears wet with it. Many start this sport with a CZ. They are fine rifles and can't be touched in their price point. It took me up to AAA in Standard and Hunter. If you stay with the sport any length of time, you WILL end up with an Anschutz in all likelihood, so get ready. I recommend a CZ for all new shooters that can't drop the cash for an Anschutz. It will take you as far as you want to go in this sport, but remember, you will find a way to justify an Anschutz in the long run, but by that time you will be as addicted to this sport as everyone else here is and will find a way to make it happen. There will always be a market for well cared for CZ rifles. You should ask around the local clubs to see who might have one for sale. You might be lucky like I was and find one with a trigger that someone else has already tweaked and will be ready to go for you. The Scope you mentioned will get you going no problem. I was an air rifle field target shooter before getting into silhouette too, so I can tell you any good scope that worked for FT will work for silhouette. Many start out with the Bushnell 4200s or the EFR like you have. I hardly ever shoot FT anymore as I am lucky to have silhouette matches year round here in S. Louisiana that I can shoot. Jump on in, you will have a great time. The people in silhouette are some of the finest of any shooting sport I have been involved with by far. You don't really compete against each other in this game as you compete against yourself.

Thanks for the kind words. The CZ 452 silhouette stock looks to be the one that I will try to get but If an american comes up at the right price I could end up with that one. Both stocks look pretty lame for me as im tall and have a long neck, the silhouette model does seem to have a bigger drop at the heel and a comb/chin rest.

One of our local members is 6'4" and he started out with the CZ Silhouette model. I think he added the slip on cheep piece to raise the comb a bit and he may have used a slip on recoil pad to lengthen the pull a bit. He shot that rifle into AAA before buying a Pharr 1712. You would be way more comfortable with the silhouette stock than the American stock I think. I am only 5'7" and had the American. I built a Richard's Microfit sporter stock that had a nice raised comb that made the rifle fit me much better than the factory American stock which was quite small even for me. I shot that gun into AAA as well.
