Another Newbie Rules Question

I've had my first few tastes of this game this summer and its growing on me. I'm a lefty looking to upgrade to a stock with a cheek piece. I know the comb must be below the bore line. Are there other issues do you see with the stock below?

The only issue you may have is the depth of the forend. The forend and bottom line of the stock can not be more thatn 2-1/4" below the center line of the bore. You should have no problem cutting the forend down a little to stay within the rules.

just for curiosity what kind of action are you putting in the stock? if it is with a tapered barrel you may think about using a hunter style stock like the frontier sportsman or custom rollover(i have this stock for my CZ452), of cousre do what you want, it is just the trend to one gun for both classes makes a diffrent stock a better "value"

then you can shoot both classes, this tactical style stock looks like a heavy rifle stock to me, not much drop at heel, probably designed for prone/bi pod/or bench shooting. i do have a richards microfit and the quality is pretty good, great considering the low cost, order early and expect NEVER to have anyone answer the phone or emails after your inital oreder confirmation.

they sell good stocks, not good customer support.

The Anschutz rifles here are all legal with the 2-1/4 inch rule as fars as the distance below.

BUT - The width is illegal. There is a maximum 2-1/4 inch width for the fore-end as well.

Thanks to all for the quick replies. Also apologies for a poorly worded question.

As Dave seems to have intuited, I am hoping to shoot the same gun in both Hunter and Standard. My gun is a CZ452 American and currently has the factory barrel. If I continue to have fun I may have a heavier custom barrel put on.

Jerry I have read your site several times before this and thank you for taking the time to post all that info.

Now just so I understand this clearly, in addition to the comb height and fore end width, it appears that the "tactical" stock I was considering is a no go because the more vertical grip is not considered "traditional?" This is the only thing I can see in the NRA rule book that could be the issue.

Dave, did you have any problem with the weight of the stock? I like the look of the laminates, but was leaning toward the claro walnut to keep the weight down.

I have a Boyds laminate on my target 10/22 that use in standard class and love it. I'm a lefty as well. They do make some for the CZ. The stock you bookmarked may not be useable in both classes because of the pistol grip, but that seems to be subjective, and from what I've read, wouldn't be a problem until the higher level regional matches where they are more strict. For local and state matches you could proly get away with it for both.
Otherwise, you may consider a stock on the same site marked as the "Marksman stock"

I bet they would cut with a comb for a lefty for a lil more money.

my weight is legal for hunter , i have claro walnut. i have a select piece the grain is still pretty good. keep in mind i shoot a varmint 452 so have a bit more metal, the american should be ok with just about any style stock you choose.

i didnt check, but richards microfit used to have a light weight laminate. may be just what you are looking for.

Mt Medic's recomendation of the boyds is a good option too, although i would be careful, Tactical stocks are not all that ergonomic for off hand shooting. even with the highish comb, the lack of heel drop will have it teetering towards the top of your shoulder, especially if you have a long neck, this can be offest with high rings, but still not optimum. the custom rollover and similar are close to a stock anschutz 1700 series. kind of standard ergonomic stock. mine has a nice palm swell to boot.

shoot what you like, there will be some who will try and get you to the top end of the gear spectrum a bit fast. your cz as it sits now is capible of shooting master scores every time, with the right ammo of course.
