Ammo lube - bolt hard to close on 1712

Are there ammos that are better than others regarding build up of wax/lube in the chamber? I was planning to use Aguila MR for practice as it gives decent results. However, after 150 rounds, the stuff makes my bolt close hard. I have Eley Target and Wolf MT for matches. However, the rifle is new to me and I have not run more than 100 rounds of the Eley or Wolf thru it (I was cleaning the barrel between ammo tests). Your thoughts are appreciated.

I always have that same problem with Aguila in my rifles. When using Lapua, SK Jagd, RWS or Eley all function fine.

SK Jagd Standard Plus or its Wolf equivalent is not all that expensive. It's all I use for both practice and matches. It works fine in everybody else's 1712 as well as mine. Also, I like to shoot the same ammo all the time. Something about familiarity. I don't want to change to the expensive stuff even for big matches.

Thanks for the info guys. Glad to hear that some else experienced the same problem. BTW, does the lube on the Wolf/SK cause other unintended problems? That is, after I load up a mag, I have lube on my hands.

Same thing happens with Aguila in my Anchutz 1712 and CZ 452. I don't shoot that ammo much anymore because of it.

That new lube is pretty slippery isn't it I just have a small towel/rag and wipe my fingers on it.

I never have had any problems with either of my magazine fed Anchutz rifles shooting Wolf or Eley. I don't clean my rifles that often either.

I've taken to warming up the ammo and wiping a lot of the lube off for certain guns... Especially the Model 41 - I actually went to wiping down each cartridge with one of those pre-soaked oil-wipes and my reliability problems went away... Need to find something easier but this works for now...

That model 41 is obviously a piece of junk anyway. I'll take it and dispose of it for you if you want.

First thought : Cleaning between different kinds of ammo. Usually one dry patch will do the job. Then it takes 5 to 10 shots to condition the barrel to the new ammo. Complete cleaning is not needed between types of ammo.
Second: It wouldn't hurt to run a dry patch every now and then with the greasy ammo to eliminate the build up problem.
Third: Make sure the locking lugs have a bit of grease on them if you are trying to cam bullets home. This will keep the lugs from galling.

I hear you on the barrel seasoning. When I tried out aobut 10 kinds of ammo, I would run 2-4 patches thru the barrel (first one with Hoppes) and then shoot about 25 shots before shooting for groups. I got the bore guide from Champions Choice that looks exactly like the bolt on a 1712.

For Wolf/SK, you might be on to something about getting all that lube out of the chamber.

What kind of grease are you using for the bolt lugs? Are you putting them on both faces or just the rear (toward the shooter) lug?

Just a touch on the rear of the lug where it contacts the action. Also don't forget the cocking cam. I have been using pro-shot gold grease on both rimfire and centerfire rifles for years with no problem. By just a touch I mean just enough to put a shine on it. The grease is wiped off after each sesson to get the dirt and dust off then new re applied.
