1712 Trigger

I bought a used 1712, originally built by Steve Wooster. The original box from Champions, says the action came with a 2 stage trigger, but the seller said he always had it set for single stage. At matches, I've noticed those 1712s with 2 stage triggers have triggers that are also adjustable for length of pull, mine doesn't. I also followed instructions in the Anschutz brochure to adjust the stages but didn't find a lot of difference and didn't want to fool with it too much.

Is there an easy/obvious way to tell if I in fact have a 2 stage trigger?

The ones with the adjustable trigger shoe (LOP) are the two stage ones and with the fixed trigger shoe are the single stage triggers. Based on your description it is the single stage. Evelio or Neal Stepp (I.S.S. http://www.iss-internationalshootersservice.com/) can convert it to a two stage for you.

I have a 2 stage without any adjustment on the stages. It looks like a normal single stage trigger but it is a 2 stage. I think the split on the stages is 70% on the first stage and 30% on the second stage.

The two stage trigger also came with a non-movable trigger blade. These were also available on the 1710.

Some of the older 1710 had a fixed trigger blade but some were two stage. All 1712 that I am aware of, if they have a fixed trigger blade, are only single stage. The only way to tell, is by taking the trigger blade out, and the two stage blade will have a small cam just below the mounting pin hole, the cam is ground off by Anschutz on the single stage. All triggers with the adjustable ( LOP ) blade, are two stage, regardless of model, 1710, 1712, and 64.

From what you said can I assume that to make the change you would change the shoe rather than the whole trigger assembly? I'm getting used to the 2 lb pull and shooting the gun well, but would like to have the option of going to 2 stage if it doesn't involve having to purchase an entire trigger assembly.

All you have to change is the trigger blade, Neal Stepp have them, is a little tricky, but not hard. Once you change the blade to a two stage, it can actually be adjusted to single stage only if you change your mind.
