scope advise for a new guy

I have a cz 452 american that needs a scope for shooting smallbore silohoutte. I will compete down the road someday I am sure but for right now I am just shooting at my local silohoutte range. A lot of people are telling me that a 3-9x32 AO with semi target turrets is not enough power? Is this true? If so what do you all recommend?

for a good starter scope that you wont "outgrow" and lose all your investment i like the weaver v-16, 1/4 clicks decent glass a/o. then it will make an excellent scope for the cz if and when you move on to others. the best thing you can do is keep it for hooking your buddys.
the weaver is 1/2 the $$$ of leupold and wont hold value the same but it is a great deal and of good quality.

Minimum of 16x on a Weaver, Sightron or Leupold. Leupold is King of the hill and charges accordingly, but is still a good value when you look at potential resale value.

I hear a lot of good things about the weaver v16. So should I use my clearridge 3-9x32AO for my squirrel gun and buy more power for my silhouette gun? I just want to know if you all think a 3-9x32 is too low for shooting SB Silhouette?

avidhunter, for most begginers with scopes , 3X9 is fine, you will find usually that as your wobble tightens up some you will prefer 16 to 24 power range. Some like the 30+ power but in the overall picture that is a small number of people. When you feel you are ready to go to a stronger power you will probably want a more mechanically sound, and/or better glass so you will probably end up wth one of the Weaver T series, or a Leupold or Sightron. Burris and Nikon are great glass, but the adjustments are not as easy. Shoot what you have, take the opportunites to look through other scopes (just ask and the shooters will let you play!) and work into what ever you are comfortable with later.

Lots of Vortex scopes are on Closeout. I have seen the Viper 6.5-20x44 on sale for $279. I have the same one in 50mm on my CZ 452 silhouette, and I love it. Clear, good adjustments, target turrets that so far have been repeatable, and easy resettable zero.

Otherwise, can't go wrong with Weaver T-series.
