Pharr vs.McMillian

I have a 54 rep. with the McMillian thumb hole stock. it has the heavy barrel. I am thinking of putting a new barrel on it. If I fill in the thumb hole, put a tapered barrel, and set the trigger to 2lbs. and it makes weight, will it be legal for hunter rifle. Also is the a spec sheet for trigger guard size on both rifles ? Thanks for your knowledge and input. BC don't know if you talk to much, but you sure can type. lol

OOps!!!! I guess I don't type enough. IS the Pharr stock in size, the same except for cheek piece as the McMillian?

If I remenber right the mac stock thats on the 54 rep is more like a standard stock so filling in the thumb hole will still make the stock a NO-GO ...

I had read somewhere people were cutting the top out of the thumb hole and getting away with using it.

If it does not have the looks of a conventional "hunting" stock look or if the front of the stock does have not have taper, the pistol grip too large or square you may not get away with using it in Hunting rifle class. Its all about the looks any more.

yeah, it for sure doesn't have a taper on the front of the stock, even though that part is never touched.

I'm not sure just exactly yhat a hunting stock looks like but I don't think the heave McMillan stock will make it with the thumb hole plugged. If it does, the rules need an overhaul.

I think you should sell he mcmillian and buy a pharr style stock. I don't think the hole filling would work well. Really the spirit of the factory hunting gun is long gone. Either option is legal, and OK by me.
