Another scope question

Post by old sparky »

Howdy all. I have a question that I am sure someone can help with. I bought a new 1712 I need to get some rings for it tell me if this sounds like I am on the right track. I took a piece of card stock 1" x 3" and punched 1/4" holes in it. I taped it to a spare short scope ring on the rifle. I shouldered it several times looking to find the hole that felt most centered with my eye with a erect head but firm cheek weld then subtracted 1/2 my scope tube. I come up with 1.3125 or 1 5/16" I look on the BKL web page and adding up a 257 and a riser is a little tall and a 257H is a little short. Anyone know a ring I might get close with? Or do I need to go the custom route? I have a inquire into a custom set but hadn't heard anything so I am looking at options.
thanks, Jim

It sounds like you've done your homework! Most of us just use whatever comes closest and adapt slightly. Metalhead for one does some beautiful work but he doesn't hang out here very much anymore.

Howdy Jim:
I also do a similar set up for finding ring height and has worked well for me in the past. I as well have used BKLs but weren't happy with selection and therefore went to Marvin Pearson for a better selection. I use these on my 1712 & 54.18. Very happy with this set up and quality is excellent. Contact him and he will send pics.
