Re: New Here
Quite a few years ago I ran into two brothers, I think they were from NM, one was shooting an electronic trigger. He was having problems with it when it got real hot out. I guess I'm not sure what advantage it would give you over a regular trigger of top quality. You can fill in any brand you like for the 'top quality'.

Re: New Here
i'm torn on the rules also, IMHO they probably should have 4 classes:
1. hunter - mostly stock rifles
2. standard (should probably be called "modified") - basic rifles with some enhancements
3. open - for radically enhanced rifles
4. semi auto - with sub catagories of hunter, standard, and open.
i do like the idea of having the hunter class as it allows any shooter with a .22 the opportunity to compete. i also like it because it brings out more shooter skill and less mechanical advantage.
however the folks with tricked out rifles should be able to join in on the fun also.

Re: New Here
4 rifle classes?????
We need ONE class only.
With the .22 rimfire match, pick a rifle and shoot it. Most folks are shooting only one rifle now, in 2 classes. I would like to see some side matches run to invigorate the silhouette game, speed, accuracy, team, ????? Money side bets???

Charlie is right. At this point, having two classes is "silly" We need to make it more interesting....

Re: New Here
This is pretty much like the arguments over cleaning rimfire rifles: It comes up regularly and everyone has different ideas. If a rifle is shot offhand, the barrel is long enough to moderate sound a little, it doesn't damage the targets unreasonably and it doesn't fling hot brass at me, shoot whatever makes you happy. You like 10/22's? Great! Just please improvise some kind of brass deflector.
Most of us will never out shoot an Anschutz 1712, but think the projects are fun. There are several shooters in our club that can beat me with a box stock 10/22 no matter what rifle I have, so even the most outrageous rifle from Evelio's toy shop just leaves me with fewer excuses! Once you have a reliable, 1 MOA rifle, a case of ammunition, and a range all you really need is the discipline to practice.

No credit card purchase here. I put down a CASH deposit. She would only need to pay off the little bit that is left.Innocent wrote:BB, you have problems if your wife is jealous of a stock.
Trent, good luck on getting the wife to pay off the balance of a creidt card for you....especially one you have run up.

Re: New Here
I am just about the last person in the world who would want to say this but it seems wise to at least mention... The alphabet-soup gang takes a dim view on such devices when attached to semi-automatics for those not papered for such fun. Then again, they'd be just as pissed if you shoved drill chucked with an egg-beater in the trigger guard and let it fly.rbrandes wrote: Almost a long story... I am involved in developing an electronic trigger for the 10/22. The ultimate goal is to build a bedding block bullpup to neutralize the 10/22 "droop" thing. So, seems like everyone who is interested in the electronic trigger is shooting silhouette, so I started looking into it.
Still shooting high power and bullseye pistol.

Re: New Here
Our electronic trigger is not unlike those used on Olympic pistols. It is safe, reliable, is easily adjustable for pull weight, travel, second stage is optional and has a long battery life.
You can read all about it on Rimfire Central.http://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums/sh ... p?t=317395
Also, what is the problem with getting hit with brass? I thought it was one shooter at a time. If so, get out of the way.

Re: New Here
I shoot 1 rifle for both classes as do many shooters anymore...For me its a choice , if you travel to these matches you need only 1 rifle or 2 if you shoot high power aswell instead of 4 try traveling with 4 rifles on a plane and you will know what I mean and its more economical important in this day. I also discovered that generaly my scores have improved since I shoot 1 rifle and not have to adjust between 2 diffrent rifles. I like the idea of side shoots to spice things up maybe diffrent test of skill at longer ranges or smaller targets.

We shoot on line while standing several feet apart but brass makes the trip anyway, somehow.rbrandes wrote:Also, what is the problem with getting hit with brass? I thought it was one shooter at a time. If so, get out of the way.

Re: New Here
Watch out for electronic triggers, I know, they are not allowed in Hunter class. As far as standard class, they were use at one time, but I think they were outlaw due to accidental discharge. The new NRA rule book do not specifically mentions anything about electronic triggers.

So, some silhouette matches have several sets of targets to allow more than one shooter at a time? How many at a time where you compete? The Tallahassee RPC has a match on the first Sunday of the month, but due to anniversary issues I could not attend. I hope to make the one on March 7th and see what it is about.
Right now for rimfire I have an AR22, which won't work because the scope goes up on top of the carry handle and that puts it too far from the barrel. I hesitate to shoot iron sights at steel because these old eyes have enough trouble with bullseye targets.
Then I have this 10/22 I bought while working on the eTrigger. It is a stock guts with a folding stock. I got it that way. The trigger is so easy to change you can do it in two minutes. I plan to try it at the Tallahassee match if they will me. I don't even have to shoot for score, I just want to try it.

Re: New Here
I don't see mention of anything about electronic triggers in the rules for Hunter or Standard. Maybe someone can point it out in section of the rules.

Re: New Here
Was that the $1,700 sporter with the $600 scope or the $2,500-$3,000+ full out FrankenHunter? The reason, it seems that more people are shooting one gun is that the high dollar players and gamers (they are not particurally the same) found out a way to bust the Hunter rules. Hope you are happy now. Funny, I went to a local match here in four season country and eleven of the twelve guns were stock 54:18. Not that those are bargain guns, they are top of the line and point wonderfully. But it is quite insulting to hear, now that some have made the rules a joke, to then try to make illegal the investment thousands have made in quality Standard guns over the years. I have railed at the idiocy of some of the NRA's misguided changes in various sports that outlawed guns because some were cheating (2-stage hunter trigger in the 90's) or thought their sport would be ruined by technology (Bullseye HP going .30 cal or less). I don't support making this year's gun illegal next year. Why would you??TXCharlie wrote:4 rifle classes?????

Nope, I shoot a factory stock and barrel Oregon Kimber 82c, poorly. Was that the $1,700 sporter with the $600 scope or the $2,500-$3,000+ full out FrankenHunter? The reason,
If you look into the beginning of silhouette, one rifle was the game. The second rifle came about with the idea of giving a cheaper entry level firearm, which was QUICKLY changed into the “Light--space rifles @ 7 ½ lbs” that were not any cheaper. That class was transformed into the approved factory hunter rifle, no changes to those. Too many complained over the years, so more changes to the hunter rifle rules now allow what we have. The light/hunter rifles have not accomplished the purpose of an introductory, less expensive, rifle classification; it is only another class to shoot in.
Is this a “hunting” or “target” game? The rifles/scopes should reflect the answer to this question.
I had several rifles outlawed by previous rules changes, still have a chin gun stock… Do not want to outlaw anymore rifles; I think shooting one rifle, would be better for the sport. Certainly we should not add more classifications. If it is a .22 LR, then that should be acceptable
