silhouet spinner targets

I'm intrested in silhouet spinner targets for target practice at the gunclub's indoor range.
Bút how safe are those at ranges of about 12 to 25 meters?

Obviously the more distance you have the better. I wouldn't intentionally shoot anything steel at 12 meters. 25? Prabably would. What is your club safety officer's opinion? The quality of the backstop involved and my ability to contain my rounds within that backstop, would be my chief concerns.

Assuming you buy or manufacture ones that pivot above the point of aim, the spent rounds will be deflected down (assuming again, you hit the point of aim). A trap style backstop with a material in the bottom that is soft enough to "absorb" the deflected rounds would hopefully contain the projectile.

At that distance, I think I would rather shoot silhouette targets printed on paper than risk shooting steel.

I had a buddy who was fond of saying "You are never going to know if that horse is going to throw you, unless you get on him", but upon saying that he usually stayed sitting and let someone else give it a try! That close, I would be careful!

Thats what I feared. Hence my question. No worries about the backstop though. As its an indoor range, its 100% backstop..First sand, with metal behind it.
We dont have real safety officers here by the way, and even if we díd, it wouldnt help asking him, as silhouet shooting, or anything líke that, is about non-existant here. So he wouldnt have any knowledge..
Do you think steel silhouettes are better at those ranges? Or not adviseable either?
I knów I can practise on cards, but that bores REAL quick if you dont have anything else to shoot at..Shooting cards is all we normally do..Reacting targets are so much more fun..
Or what about corks? Of silhouettes shaped of wood?
I dont have any experiences shooting .22 at anything else but cards, hence my questions..

Better? No. Adviseable? The more you've described the circumstances of the range and your knowledge of shooting steel, NOT adviseable.
Better safe than sorry. Better to be bored than to get bored (Sorry, gallows humor). Seriously, it only takes one.

If you can find someone who can cut targets out of thick plastic, that may be one way to go. They will react when hit but no splash back

That would have to be some seriously tough plastic to last long enough to be worth doing, wouldn't it?

Yes, but it would be better than steel, have the same effect, and be low cost. they may only last one session at best but the fun factor would still be there
