Douglas Premium .270 barrel for sale
For Sale:
Douglas Premium SS .270 barrel, threaded for FN Mauser.
Was in my Grandad's safe, and he gave it to me to sell. Its been in there for a while, and shows some light scratches and some very light surface rust that will come off as soon as I clean it, nothing major
$225 shipped

Re: Douglas Premium .270 barrel for sale
I've got an old Mauser in .270 Win that I've been thinking of rebarreling eventually, but haven't ever done anything like that before. What all will have to be done to the barrel to install it? What's the condition of the bore if the outside is "weathered" a bit like that? Do you have diameter measurements on different sections of the barrel that would help with identifying it according to this chart on the Douglas website? It looks to be either number 2 or 3 in that chart. I'm trying to guess the weight, as I want a fairly lightweight hunting rifle once I'm done.

Re: Douglas Premium .270 barrel for sale
Jason, I have installed five Douglas Premium barrels on M700's in my collection. More than likely this .270 barrel is in what Douglas and other makers call the FTC condition. Finished,Threaded,Chambered. In other words the barrel is fully finished, crowned, final chamber reaming is complete and threaded for the specified action. The only fitting needed is to set the head space by measuring and removing the correct amount of metal from the shank shoulder.Douglas leaves up to .018 extra material on the recoil lug shoulder. The distance has to be measured from the action face, including any recoil lug to the closed bolt face. The distance from the "go " cartridge gage head to the barrel shank shoulder is measured. The difference between the numbers is what PRECISELY must be removed from the barrel shoulder. The only way this can be accomplished is using precision measuring tools such as a micrometer depth gage, and of course a metal cutting machine shop lathe. This type of installation is considered easy for anyone capable of running a lathe and should not cost much to do. You will also need to have an extractor relief cut made if installing on a Mauser 98. That barrel looks to be a #3 contour to me.
Douglas barrels are second to none in my opinion. All mine shoot fantastic. They are also less money than the other "famous makers" out there.
