My first real try at picking out a spot on the animal was there in raton this past august, with 2 AA, 2 AAA and 2 Master scores there for smallbore, i didnt see much improvment with my scores...

this is what i have been leaning towards this past season, i too like high back on turkeys, flank on rams, high back on chickens, and beleive it or not, i have gotten all of my ten in a row pigs when i broke in the little ball, thanks for the visual on that one mary.... never thought of it that way... =))

i do beleive that for any style of POA/POI to work, you must be as consistant as you can, which includes your after shot method of breathing and reloading etc. as well as befor shot breathing, maybe we should cal it our SOP, Standard Operating Procedure, if you do everything the same, 40 times, everyone can shoot a 40, geese, everyone can do it 60 times, or 80, or even win nationals with a perfect 120, consistancy, if you can hit on animal, you can hit em all...... :-bd
I do my best not to think i know it all, but i do know i know half of what i think i know now, so if i mess something up, cant i get an alibi?

Mary is describing areas of the various animals that tend to attract your attention and "be comfortable". Whether those points of aim will work at any given moment depends upon the lighting...if you can not see the dot on the animal, or even the entire animal, you may have to improvise by holding over the back (and adjusting your elevation settings) just so that you know where you are. I shot a match recently where only the leg and leg/body of some of the chickens were visible. I should have cranked up the elevation and just held on the foot more quickly than I did.

If the wind conditions do not allow you to hold on your favorite area of the animal you just have to do what you can. (If there is a strong wind from the ram's rump, it will be difficult to hold on the horn/top of the back without cranking in a bunch of windage and when the wind changes you are chasing it and probably will run out of time.)

The one problem with holding at an unusual position such as the ram's horn and back and trying to get a center impact is that you have to adjust the windage to do that and then keep track of which way the animal is facing...and remember to take it out when you move to the chickens.

Have fun experimenting to see what works best for you. Obviously, you did well with what you are doing so it can't be all bad.

Cheers!

For a while I have been holding at smaller points on the animals. I point it out here: http://members.cox.net/riflesilhouette/ ... dTips.html.

I never hold in any other position than that specific point. I adjust my scope all of the time for any existing conditions so I can see the same point every time. I believe in having the same sight picture every time. It is a highly recognized event in your mind when you are there and foreign when you are not. Just my opinion...

Thanks for the website work, Jerry. Would you be willing to share your click adjustments for those points of aim on the targets? I know they'll all vary, but my Weaver T24 should be about the same adjustment as your T36. I've had a lot of trouble picking a spot that my eye will be drawn to every time on the ram. I think I'll try the front foot next time.

Thanks Deadeyeky, it is nice to know the few hundred hours of work is apreciated haha! I have several 10~12 hour days in sorting out ranges alone. It is a time benifit of being unemployed...

JASON... It is roughly a minute up from your original setting. Then about 1/4 to 1/2 minute of windage toward the head on the Chickens, Pigs & Turkeys But a 1-1/4~ 1-1/2 minute adjustment to the center of the Ram.

Great stuff Jerry.
Folks, Jerry's website is and has been a wonderful asset to the silhouette community. It helped me get hooked for sure, and headed in the right direction.
Usually shooting scores right in class, too bad its the class below my classification!

Thanks, Jerry. Your website is the one that came up first up first a few years ago when I had only someone mention silhouette shooting to help offhand shooting skills. Here I am a few years and a few thousand dollars later. So thanks for then and now... hmm.. I bet my wife might not share my sentiments, though. :))
