Where to shoot?

Post by AuMiner »

Hi all! I live in Georgia, Just west of Atlanta. I'm looking for silhouette matches to attend next shooting season. Also interested in any off-hand type competition. NRA Light rifle comes to mind or any other friendly match nearby. I really don't want to travel 200 miles every weekend. Can anyone help? Second I have property where SB matches could be held. even have targets if anyone is interested.
Thanks for your time

Next Saturday is the last club match of the year at Chattanooga Rifle Club. 118 miles according to Google Maps, from Atlanta to Chattanooga. The match is run by the aforementioned Gator. Range opens at 11:00, match begins at noon.

Thanks! But that's about 165 miles from here in Carrollton Ga. Just a little to far in this tight economy. I'll keep looking.

Seem to be the common problem...distance or in my case time to travel to these far of ranges to shoot...We were dried up down here in South Florida but now we have them comming out of the woodwork with many old silhouette shooters who havent turned a bolt in years comming out....all we did was start holding matches our selves and they came out...if you have a range near to you I would recomend you start them...and they will come..it worked for our club.

Here we is....

The last match in Chattanooga will be this Saturday until next March or April. Pink 22 is done for the year. There are some matches in the Birmingham area either at Pinson or Hoover. Some one from over that way might chime in. How ‘bout it Chardonnay? That’s about it for this area.

BTW – the match this weekend is free and that should save you some gas money. If you should decide to come to Chattanooga for a “final fling”, contact me: [email protected] and I will forward programs and directions. The range is locked and you will have to know what to do when you arrive.

Thanks all! Proves me right again. Shooters ARE the best people around. Though I would like to attend a match asap, I am looking toward next spring. And yes shoots in Alabama sound good too. I was going to go to Hiawassee earlier this year but the person I contacted never sent inf. Hopefully I can get inf next year. Through your help I have located many ranges that show SB Sil in the search inf. but their websites lack that discipline.

Yes I have property that might be suitable for a SB range. Distance, parking, safe for long distance down range. It just needs some berms, and bases for targets. Might not get NRA approved status immediately but might still be an intermediate distance to travel for some. I am working on it as time permits.

Thanks again

Our club in Hiawassee has a web site: http://www.chatugegunclub.com/index.html
There is a calendar on it that shows everything going on up here. Our matches with the exception of the Smallbore Rifle Silhouette are scheduled by the quarter; Dec, March, June, Sept. Smallbore Rifle Silhouette is scheduled by the year due to the requirements of the NRA of publication in the schedules. Need to check the site after these dates.

The Chattanooga Rifle Club has a website: http://www.chattanoogarifleclub.org/index.html that also has a calendar showing all activities at their range. The new 2010 calendar will be posted around the first of the year. Keep in mind that you will have to make contact and arrangements with the Match Director for admittance to their range for matches since the gate remains locked and some member will meet you there and escort you to the appropriate venue.

Hope this helps…..

You still have time to make the matches this weekend.

Magic City Gun Club in Pinson, AL has matches on the 2nd Sat of the month if they don't change it. They have a silhouette fun match as well on another weekend shooting at the pistol targets. This is an ever changing match since you never know what target mix they will come up with. They are done shooting for this year but will start up again in February. I am sending you some contact information for Nick Tyree who is running the silhouette match there.

Help me if you can... There are a few sites out there that on the surface seem to be informative regarding range locations. Unfortunately they seem to have done no research into what is actually shot by the club and or range they are listing. At several websites listing ranges and clubs a large number of places listed for Rifle Silhouette actualy shot pistol silhouette only. That is one of the reasons I was pushing myself to set up the page I did. The purpose of my website is to help those who are just hearing about the sport so I want to help them find out where they can try it. I am almost finished in verifying all of the information. What I am trying to do is end up with a complete list of the clubs and ranges which are offering specifically Smallbore and High Power Rifle Silhouette, the basis of my website.

Another point to make is there are a large amount of clubs and ranges with website that do not make a point of what disiplines are practiced and/or clearly where the range or club is located. If you are going to put a website up to provide information, please provide the most important part. Some provide cartoon maps and/or cartoon instructions on how to find them. Sometimes go north actually means go east...ever hear of Google, Mapquest, Virtual Earth, Google Earth, GPS, Yahoo Maps, MSN Maps or Rand McNally?

In conclusion if you know of a club or range shooting Rifle Silhouette that I am not listing, please provide the information to me at [email protected]
