left handed shooter

I am new to this shooting sport. I have been to two local matches. Used a club gun and shot at the last match and really enjoyed it and all the people. Now I am going to purchase a rifle. I shoot left handed but suitable rifles are hard to find. I can shoot right hand rifles lefthanded so I have been looking at some right hand rifles without a big rollover cheekpiece that wouldn`t work for me. I have been looking at a Anchutz 1416D BVT. Was wondering if it would work for the hunter class. Any other gun suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks Shag

try them until you find something that is comfortable for you. Yes many shoot right handed guns lefthanded, the Remington 541, Browning A bolt, CZ 452, Winchester 52, several of the lighter versions of the Annies are easily adaptable to left handed shooters. There are some left handed actions out there, if you are patient, they will show up. Welcome to the this addictive sport and have fun shooting it. Hunter class has the 8.5 pound weight limit, 2.0 pound trigger pull and barrel taper requirements in the rules.

The 1416's are good rifles for the price. But if you have a little more to spend on an excellent rifle you can also look at a custom rifle from someone like New Ultrlight Arms, there are several shooters shooting one of Mel's Model 20 rimfires, here is his site http://www.newultralight.com/

Great.. forgot about CZ also making a lefty. That is a good starter rifle as well and if the trigger is a little rough you can get a Brooks kit or Timney trigger for it.

shag, you will not be sorry with a 452...remarkably precise (oh no there comes the QM terminalogy...) rifle and will usually group about any brand of ammo. Don't forget to invest in glass, dropping 3 to 7 hundred plus in buying a precision rifle and then mounting a 50 to 120 dollar scope doesn't usually work out too well in the long run.

I just found a left handed Anschutz 64 MPR for my son. Keep looking and you'll see LH guns on occasion. Try the RimfireCentral forums. They are a good reference, though not silhouette specific.

I haven`t made a purchase yet but I sure hate to pass up that cz. Really surprised me to see it up on the shelf. The scope I am looking at is the sightron 6-24x42 SIL with the target dot sights. I thought if I get the cz I would do the trigger with a timney or maybe somthing cheaper. Anyway still looking for an Anchutz and one of those Ultra Lites in left hand looks good to. Probably will get that cz though before it is gone. Seems that more people shoot hunter class. Why is that? Is the standard class more advanced shooters. Probably because a lot of people already have a hunting style .22 they can start with rightaway. Anyways thanks for all the help and advice and I can`t wait to start messing around with my own rifle. Not necessarily more advanced. A lot of people shoot hunter class guns exclusively because hunter class guns are legal for standard class, but not vice versa. And with the right hunter gun it's not really a handicap to shoot one gun in both classes...for the beginning shooter the (IMHO) best way to jump in is to buy a quality hunter class gun and good glass, find what it like to eat, treat yourself to a case of it and shoot, shoot, shoot..You'll have a blast and learn more than you could imagine about the "art of the rifle" Welcome to the family.

Shag, You can't go wrong with the CZ. I have both a CZ and a Ultra Light. For the money the CZ is a good rifle. I tried the trigger kits but wound up putting a Timney in. You'll have to do a little work with a Dramel tool to get it in but it's well worth it. Check with Chicken George on this site. I bought my trigger from him at a great price.
