rifle stock rule question

Just for fun this winter, I've decided to build my own silhouette stock. So I have been reading the rule book, and have a question for you experts.

This question regards rule 3.1 (d), which reads in part, "the comb shall not extend above the centerline of the bore, but Monte Carlo roll may rise 1/2 inch on the off side."

So do I understand correctly, that the Monte Carlo roll can be 1/2 inch above the centerline of the bore? And for us right handed shooters, would this Monte Carlo roll be on the right side of the stock?

I'm certainly no expert, but I've had a couple stocks made. It's my understanding that the "offside" comb that rises above the boreline, would be the opposite side of the shooter's "handedness". But no part of the comb may be directly in line with the bore.

As I understand it, no comb above the centerline of the bore at the boreline, but may rise up to 1/2" above center of boreline on the side that the shooter's cheek is not on.

As long as you can see clear daylight thru the bore,( over half the bore ) any roll over is legal. No groove clearance in the comb allowed.

There are lots of places where there's gray area that's going to be up to interpretation by the match director, though. For instance, here's the rule for adjustable cheekpieces in the silhouette rifle rulebook.

3.15 Buttplates and Cheekpieces - A butt or buttplate having a curved rear surface in which the depth of the curve exceeds 1/2 inch when measured from a straight line drawn from the top to the bottom of the buttplate is prohibited. buttplates must be centered. Adjustable cheek pieces must be fixed and sealed in place. See 3.4(f) regarding Black Powder Cartridge Rifle. Rule 3.15 does not apply to Target or Open class Air Rifles.

I would interpret that as adjustable cheekpieces being allowed as long as they are fixed and sealed in place. What it takes to "seal" it might be anything from duct tape to epoxy, depending on who's interpreting it. My guess, and it's only a guess, is that an adjustable cheekpiece would not be allowed in hunter class because that would violate the hunting style stock stipulation. That would be up the match director.

I wouldn't travel to a match with an adjustable cheek piece and expect to shoot no matter how it was fixed in place.

I've never seen someone actually turned away from a match because of equipment. I've seen them get to shoot but not get to compete for class awards because their equipment didn't meet requirements, but I've never seen them actually not get to shoot.
