TN states

Post by Innocent »

Commander Kitty:
Reporting in from the fine state of Florida that the 4th annual Tennessee State championships were held in the fine "no frills " manner this last Saturday with fantastic weather. Nine states were represented, with 15 ladies, 13 seniors, and a junior competing. Even had enough for an unclassified class and new shooter Susan Satterfield shooting a Wally world special 10/22 with a Simmons scope managed to hit five in a row pigs to start off with! That was after some minor adjustments on Friday, like tightening the bedding screws, scope base and rings and spending a little time teaching her about NPA.
Congrats go to Chris Simmons of NC for winning both rifles with 55 and 54, followed by last years champ Laura (Gotcha!!!), TN and Ron Bain, MO.
This years infamous shirt color is Blue...quite a rainbow of colors being created by this match.
The City Cafe is intact and doing well, only came home with two slices of cake, plus the one I ate there. Lunch on the line was wonderful and Verlee made great Brownies. The local boyscout troop did a great job setting targets and had fun shooting them down after the match.
Thanks to Ed Jones, Nelson Fagan, Verlee, Dale and all the new stat staff that assisted in putting on this match.
Great job and lots of fun.

Great match report Innocent Mary....Sounds like a good time was had by all....I hated to miss Ed's big dance, but it's hard to get planned absences for the youngest member of the Team Kitty traveling troop, and she would certainly find a new spotter/coach if I left her behind....fond memories of the city cafe...great food overshadowed by wonderful desserts...mmmmmuuuummmm.

Now Ed...all 43 of us that showed up and were able to stay didn't put you through the paces did we? It was great as usual, not sure what team the t shirt colors are supposed to be this year but it is hard to follow UF and Bama...

THanks again.

2009 Tennessee Small-bore Rifle and Small-bore Hunter Rifle Silhouette Championships

Following several days of predictions for thunderstorms and rain, forty-three competitors from nine states gathered on a perfect Saturday morning to compete in the 2009 Tennessee Small-bore Rifle and Small-bore Hunter Rifle Silhouette Championships. The tournament(s) were held at the Chattanooga Rifle Club in Harrison, Tennessee. Each was fired as a 60-round tournament: Standard Rifle in the morning and after a lunch break, Hunter Rifle in the afternoon.
When all the paperwork was completed, the Open Class winner in both tournaments was Chris Simmons of Marion, North Carolina. Chris fired a 55 and a 54 respectively. The Tennessee State Champion for the second year in a row was Laura Goetsch of Whites Creek, Tennessee knocking off 50 and 49 critters. Ron Bain of New Haven, Missouri, won both Master classes with 52 and 50. AAA classes were won by Glen Hughes of Birmingham Alabama with a 46 and Carol Rosenqvist of Young Harris, Georgia with 42. AA Class Standard award went to Hugh McCombs of Orange Park, Florida with 37 and the Hunter to Steven Lunsford of Marion, North Carolina with 40 hits. A Class Standard was won by Steven Lunsford and Hunter by John Taylor from Brunswick, Georgia. Ruby Rhinesmith of Blairsville, Georgia grabbed the B Class Standard spot and A.T. Sorrells, also of Blairsville, took the Hunter award in B. We had an Unclassified class and both were won by Michael Corley of Cordova, Tennessee. The coveted “Hi Turkey A & B “ went home this year with Cory Richardson of Whitwell, Tennessee. This award is one of those “ya just gotta be there to believe it”.
Having competed in and presented silhouette tournaments over the past 25 years or so, it has become apparent that the success of a match may depend to a great degree upon the presence and efficiency of the Target Setters. For the fourth year, Boy Scout Troop 442 from Maryville Tennessee did their job quickly and efficiently thus keeping the match on schedule and the competitors mellow and content.

Congratulations to all the other winners. Hope to see y’all again next year.
