Anschutz 1712 Scope Options For Hunter Class

Hi, Guys, There's a pretty good chance of a 1712 showing up in my safe in the near future. Anshutz lists their WOOD stock 1712 at 7.3 lbs. and I'm hoping that some of you might share what scope and rings combinations you are running to make weight in Hunter at 8 1/2 pounds.I have a Leupie 6.5X20 EFR gathering dust in my safe but am not limiting myself to this particular scope.

At this point I'm gonna leave it as it came out of the box.

figure you dont need much else, unless u want higher magnification. i shoot at 25x with a set of sportmatch rings.
though thinking about an offset rings from BKL

hahahunter, what does your rig weigh all up and ready to rock.????? I assume it is still in the factory wood. ??? What scope are you using???

Most any target scope and high ring will fit into that weight. You wouldn't believe how much lead I put into my plastic 1712 stock.

Jerry G I'm thinkin' that your 1712 might be the silhouette model in which case it weighs two pounds less than the 1712 wood stocked silhouette model @ 7.3 lbs. plus the 18 oz of the 6.5X20 EFR is crowding the limit and the rings haven't been factored into the mix.

Just trying to get all my ducks in a row before I plunk down the cash and find that it is overweight. Not really interested in removing wood from the stock or cutting the barrel.

Wish I knew someone that is shooting one.Tough figuring it out based solely on various website information.

My wood stocked 1712 with a Mark Pharr aluminum trigger shoe, Anschutz mag, Weaver V16 scope and no name aluminum rings weighs 8lbs, 3.4 oz. I know the fixed power Leupold 30X that was on it weighs only 14ounces.

If the Anschutz weighs a full 7 lbs, 4 ounces (Anschutz website), the VXIII 6.5-20x40 is 17.8 ounces (Leupold website) and the BKL rings weigh 3.1 ounces (BKL website) that adds up to 8 lbs, 8.9 ounces.

Weigh the parts, and if there is a problem find some aluminum rings. My guess is the 1712 will actually weigh closer to 7 pounds because everyone seems to list a maximum weight and there's always some variation, particularly in a wood stock.

I dont remember what my rifle weighs. off the top of my head, the match director said it was 2 ounces shy of the mark. I have a champions choice 1712 with green Mcmillian stock, fluted 53rf lilja barrel,leupold 8.5-25X with sportmatch rings on Anschutz 20mm riser blocks. so far so good. its shoots much better than I do so far

hahahunter yeah saw a rig like yours on the Champ choice site. Nice. I saw they offer a 1712 in a Mickey which would solver all my problems in that dept But I dearly love the look and feel of wood.

Now I gota open rhat bag of shot that's been on my bench since................

22284, you are correct about the stock. I did have Weaver steel rings and a 18 x 40 Thomas bumped scope which is heaver than the 6.5 x 20.

I have a 1712 wood stock with 6.5 -20 EFR and Burris signature high rings(steel and very heavy) that easily makes weight (8.14 Lbs IIRC). Other friends have had to be very carefull picking parts, removing sling studs and use aluminum rings to make weight . It all depends on how dense the wood is in your stock. You will make weight it's just a matter of choosing the right parts.

I have a Meistergrade 1712 with a wood stock that is very heavily figured. It looks like tiger stripe maple except that it is walnut.
With a Leupold 6.5-20 EFR and Redfield steel rings it is 8.41 pounds with the magazine and sunshade.
I also have a Kimber Hunter Silhouette with a Sightron Silhouette scope Leupold rings. It gets even closer.

Wood denisty has so much to do with weight. I have more than once seen identical makes/models weigh as much as 2 ounces different on the same scale on the same day.
