gunsmith needed
I am looking for a gunsmith to do a little bit of barrel work.
What I have is a Remington 540 XR which has already had the barrel shortened and crowned. It shoots well, but I would like to hire a gunsmith to put a slight taper on the barrel so I can use it as a Hunter rifle. The barrel would need to be blued afterwards.
Is there a gunsmith on this forum interested? Send me a PM if you are. Thanks.

Mark, I would check that barrel. Mine has a slight taper. Jim

Re: gunsmith needed
Is there a minimum taper needed for hunter class or any taper will do?

I believe that decision (determining "enough" taper) is up to the interpretative disgression of the match director.

To be safe, any rifle I take to a road match needs a visible barrel taper. The rules don't read that way but match directors get the last word.

If it is tapered, it is tapered..if it makes weight, it makes weight.........................that is why we invented scales and measuring instruments

Nice thought, but the Match Director gets the last word. Always. I wanted to use a rifle in Hunter class that had a 1 millimeter taper from receiver to barrel. It had a taper, albeit a small one, but I decided to use something else because I knew there could be a problem.xpilot wrote:If it is tapered, it is tapered..if it makes weight, it makes weight.........................that is why we invented scales and measuring instruments
