CZ 452 Mags?

Post by hahahunter »

Im considering a CZ, anyone know if there are any aftermarket mags at a resonable price? any mag secrets like the anschutz/savage mags that can be modified to be had so as not to spend the big bux ?
anyone bought the 452 silhouette in synthetic stock and like/hate it compared to the american stock?
thanks.

No, sorry to say. Look for the metal magazines.

Any specific reason to go for the metal ones? I've 4 of the 5 round poly magazines and have never had any trouble with any of them.

In my opinion the plastic clips work just as good (I have 3 of each) and can help you a great deal in making weight for competitions. They also make a very good single shot clip. The metal don't function any better but are great if you want that more "quality" look and feel of a metal clip.

The stock choices are a toss up. They both have same action/barrel. The CZ wooden stocks are what I consider a "rough" cut and there are significant issues with the action barrel torquing in the stock. It is just luck of the draw with a good wooden stock. I have not heard of the same issues with the synthetic. In my opinion the wood looks a great deal better.

Yup, I'm biased to the metal for no objective reason other than feel and experience with the Remington 541 plastic magazines.

I dislike the CZ Silhouette because the forearm is pretty limp, so when you try to float the barrel the forearm wants to squirm back into it. To be fair, it doesn't shoot much different with the barrel floated, just keep your forward hand behind the front action bolt.

The 452 Varmint has good weight forward balance and I like it a lot once I've bedded the action and installed a Timney trigger. That's one of the rifles I should have kept, and I keep threatening to build another one someday if new interesting projects run out.

Do you mean only loading a single round in the magazine each time or just leaving the magazine in place trying to use it as a single shot adapter?

Is that another way of saying it shoots bad? :))
If being compared to an anschutz im sure the bar is raised high, but what have you folks seen them shoot at 100? :-B

The 452 Silhouette actually shoots pretty well from the box but treat the barrel and forearm as a single piece. Don't bother trying to separate them.

CZ makes a single shot adapter that is also a plastic "clip" that is different from the standard plastic multi-bullet clip. I guess I wasn't very clear on that. It is a very nice working inexpensive single shot adapter.

Most plastic clips are real poorly designed and made. The CZ ones are quite good.

I like the metal single shot adapter... it's sweet compared to the plastic one

Denny (the BRNO specialist-can be found at RFC with a search) sells the best single shot adapter for these (as well as metal mags). The SSA is a nice hefty metal mag replacement with a pivoting metal bullet guide. Wish I hadn't given mine away with the Silo I sold when I upgraded to Annies, as I recently got a Varmint for playing around.......
Usually shooting scores right in class, too bad its the class below my classification!
